what used to be the pearl diving museum

what used to be, and is still being described in tourist brouchure and the bahrain website as the pearl diving museum no longer exists. the building is located in the suq, opposite the HSBC building and has been closed for renovation. when it does re-open it will be a court house (which was its orginal purpose). the pearl diving antiquities have been transfered to the national museum, opposite the radisson SAS hotel.

The Asian population in Bahrain and in the entire Arabian Gulf region is very high, so make sure to not get mixed up between the native Bahrainis and Indians for instance. It won’t be good to leave a country without knowing how the locals look like! Usually, but not necessary, Bahrainis would be wearing the traditional thoab and gitra as seen in the picture.

This is not a trap that I would like to talk about here. Bahrain is called the country of safety and you may not find any negatives. It is just to watch your step when you visit the old castles. I've been taken by the old carvings in the walls and was about to fall down because some of the ceilings are not renovated yet. The picture shows inside one of the castles. It is old but the government is renovating it to look as it used to be in past. You can figure out which is which and how royal family used to live. Bed rooms, family halls, servant's facility etc... What amazes me really is how those people used to think in building their castles. For example the fence of the castle is designed for a horseman to go around on the top of it with his horse. The fence is used to be the store where they store their foods and water...
