Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Even in June, it was surprisingly chilly, so bring some warm clothing for nights. Strong shoes are useful for negotiating the narrow paths and stairways in the monastery complex. Swimming gear for those who wish to brave the sulphur pool at the hotel!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: A torch could come in handy for exploring some of the caves, and for going to drink from "Tamar's Tears". The hotel doesn't have electricity, so candles and/or a torch are necessary here.
Miscellaneous: Bring food! There are no shops in Vardzia, no restaurants, nothing. The hotel owners provide a simple meal in the evening, but only a cup of tea in the morning, so bring some bread or biscuits or something to keep you going until Akhaltsikhe.
