Batumi has more than its fair share of cafes, and most of them serve at least beer. The cafes in the park close with darkness, so head to the port area, where a string of waterside cafes have sprung up, some permanent looking, others temporary and possibly summer-only.
Some are friendlier than others...some come and take your order before you've had chance to sit down, some make you wait for half an hour, some ignore you completely...but as there is more than one, don't be afraid to get up and leave if service is non-existant. I'm not sure what it is...fear of foreigners perhaps? Or maybe tourists are just not important enough to be served? I don't know...but avoid the pretentious one (it should be obvious which one that is). "Ukatsrovat" (excuse me) is a way of getting attention.
Your next decision should be whether to order Kazbegi or Argo...two beers, both excellent. Or try "me minda ludi" (I want beer) and see what turns up.
