The old Palace of the Prince of...

by jorgejuansanchez Updated Sep 2, 2014

This is a lovely restaurant in Gagra. It is called Gagripsh and was founded by the Duke Alexander Petrovich of Oldenburg, a member of the Russian royalty. He saw the potential of the region's subtropical climate and decided to build a high-class resort there.

Gagripsh restaurant was visited by Nicholas II plus Fyodor Shaliapin, Anton Chekhov, Maxim Gorky and Ivan Bunin. Stalin also liked this restaurant and was there a regular visitor.

    War and nationalism

    by budapest8 Written Aug 9, 2008

As of 9th August 2008, The breakaway republic
declared war on Georgia so I expect the conflict to
    escalate further with more killing.
See an account of what happened just after I left Gagra .
It's horrible to think what might have happened to the people whom I knew.
I hate all flag waving and nationalism.
