Raquel and Camilla in front of Au Sans Souci by lenoreva Although the name is not Georgian, the food certainly is. The decor is inviting, the staff is very friendly, and the food is delightful.
We did have the national dish, Khachapuri (cheese bread) here and it was the best we had anywhere (and trust me, we had a lot). We also had really nice smoked Georgian cheeses, a cucumber salad with walnuts, potatoes, a mushroom soup and much more! eating out in Tbilisi by Minashka Unfortunately I don't remember how to say "come in" in Georgian, but "genasvali" means something like darling, dear, or sweetheart :) So the name gives it a warm feeling before you even enter. The restaurant is big but almost all the tables are always taken. It's very stylish inside, but food is the best thing there! They serve great Georgian food and the service is nice too. Though everything makes it look like an expensive restaurant, it really isn't. The location is perfect and you'll leave with the best impressions :)))
To be honest I can't eat spicy food and most of the Georgian food is quite spicy, but "khingali" is VERY good and the soups are very tasty too! oh the memories :) by JohnniOmani Every restaurant in Georgia serves up the same type of food which sadly for most or for me (I enjoyed it) was full of either cheese or meat. If you cant eat either one of these options then Georgia may be a difficult place for you to travel around. Most travellers eat the staple diet of khachapuri and wine/beer but khinkali is absolutely delicious. I fell in love with these weird and strange looking dumplings but they fill you up for the price. They are served alone and you are supposed to eat at least 4 to 6 in one sitting which is not an easy task to say the least considering they are full of meat! Just remember that the locals dont eat the doughy top but I couldnt help myself only to look up and see half the restaurant laughing. Eating the top is apparently amusing :) great fun. Georgians eat and drink at all times of the day and restaurants stay open until wee hours in the morning. Breakfast is not a standard affair but consists of cheese, bread and oh yes beer in some situations. Rare places may serve up some eggs and bread but most offer khachapuri. Restaurants in smaller towns are very cheap and rarely exceed $4 US for a big portion. Most really small places only serve khachapuri or khinkali. Some cafes serve up some great pastries, cakes and other sweets. Restaurants are usually bumping so dont expect peace and quiet because the restaurant scene is an event. If you want peace and quiet try a local cafe etc. Leave a Comment

In Tbilisi at least, there are plenty of restaurants, Georgian and foreign, but the best place to enjoy Georgian cooking is in private homes. It is amazing that even the poorest family would not think twice about inviting a foreigner into their home and providing enough food to feed five thousand. Not to mention all the wine/vodka/cognac and toasting which accompanies any meal...
The food in Georgia is delicious...it has influences from Turkey and Iran, and of course Russia, but remains unique. The quintessential Georgian dish is the Khachapuri, which is bread filled with cheese...there are several varieties, and the best is Ajaruli Khachapuri (from the Ajara region around Batumi) which is a boat shaped 'pizza' with an egg added just before serving....and it is very messy (or at least the way I ate it was!). Khinkali is also famous in the region, and is a sort of dumpling filled with pork/beef mince meat...the trick is to eat it without spilling the juices (not easy at all!). Many dishes include walnut and garlic,( e.g aubergines stuffed with walnut and garlic, tomatoes stuffed with walnuts and gar.....). During the 4 weeks I spent in Georgia, I tried many home-cooked dishes, but I cannot remember their names (either because I had too much to drink that night, or because the names are unpronounceable to everyone but Georgians!) The food is tasty and spicy without being too hot (I mean chilli hot, not temperature hot). Leave a Comment Theme: Local

by vysnaite A friend said this place, restaurant is ok for eating and in Summer it's open! :)
Do you know what's common between Lithuanians and Georgians? Shaslyk!!! It's peaces of marinated with spices meat put on the sticks and roasted on fire! One real georgian also tried to convince me that real Georgian shaslyk is also from vegetables only, but many georgians wouldn't sign under this statement! For the meat eaters it's great! :) You can try Georgian food and in Lithuania. for more on Shaslyk check on my Lithuania page Traditional Foods travelogue. It's similar to kebbab in some way, but also different a little. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherOther Contact: Picture, 2000 May.

My, god, i put on 5 kilograms after my Georgia trip. Food is delicious. Try everything they will propone u. Be careful with alcohol. If u are with georgians of course. Tamada (men or woman who says toasts every 10 seconds will not let u not to drink) They drink wine like crazy. In good meaning of course. Advice. Thay always give water to wine. Use it and drink one glass of water beetwen every glass of wine. Other way u will not survive untill end of diner. Dzveli Sakhli is a "traditional" Shashlik place located on the west bank of the Mktvari river in downtown Tbilisi. The serve an excellent variety of Georgian food, their specialty being shashlik or "mtsvadi" - spiced cubes of pork and pork fat, skewered and roasted over an open flame. The food is excellent, but they do make a production out of it - almost to the point of being touristy. But, it is a good place to bring the out of towners to see performers in full traditional Georgian garb dancing and singing "the shashlik song." Sitting outside by the river downing shashlik, fired sulguni cheese and Georgian wine is pure heaven.
Shashlik - roasted cubes of pork and pork fat on a spit. What's not to love? Ojakhuri - cubes of pork and potatoes roasted in a clay pot. YUM! Fried Sulguni - Fried cheese is the Georgians' national dish. What a country! Khachapuri - A baked or fried cheese pie. Several different varieties. Fried Mushrooms - Whole mushrooms fried in a clay plot - sometimes with cheese Lobio - baked beans and spices Khinkali - Large boiled pork dumplings Chkmeruli - Chicken fried in a clay pot with garlic/butter sauce Theme: LocalPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: On Sanipiro Street, right on the river.Directions: Near the intersection of Pushkin St. and Sanipiro.

The georgian kitchen is delicious. There are many nice restaurants in all cities. You don't have to be afraid. Most things are grilled or cooked.
The georgian tomatoe salads are wonderful!
