Marco Polo: Decent European Food

by MiradiCuson

Though Georgia has a very rich cuisine, I haven't found many restaurants in the city that serve purely Georgian cuisine (khachapuri, khinkali, etc). This one was recommended by friends so we decided to visit. The restaurant is located on 4 floors if I am not mistaken, and we were sitting on the 3rd, which was nicely designed with a large panno. There was a live music with a solo violin playing a vey pleasant experience. Staff was very friendly and quick. Most of the menu is comprised of the European/International cuisine like pizzas, salads, etc, though one can find also some Georgian dishes like khachapuri. I personally like khachapuri very much, but decided to try the Restaurant's Special Dish, which was pork ribs. It was not bad. Other then that I would recommend to try their red wine from the pitcher and cheese selection.

khachapuri is one of the national "dishes", you can find it everywhere in Georgia,. There are different kind of khachapuri, but this one is from Adjara, you can find it in almost all cafes and restaurants of Batumi.

The Old House "dzveli shakli": Stepping into days of old

by mwaddison

Set on the river, the stone house complex features the typical large house of the Georgian countryside in days of old. The 12 foot fire place in the center of the main building adds to the warmth. Food is traditional Georgian fare, accompained by traditional male singing and dancing. All your senses are pleasantly assaulted in this delightful retreat. Sometimes it is not mixture of spices but the natural taste of the meats and vegetables that we no longer know in the west. Eggplant stuffed with walnut paste and topped with pomegranate; sturgeon cooked over a charcoal grill; and, a multitude of fine Georgian wines.

Dont try to miss their restaurants

by linith

My, god, i put on 5 kilograms after my Georgia trip. Food is delicious. Try everything they will propone u. Be careful with alcohol. If u are with georgians of course. Tamada (men or woman who says toasts every 10 seconds will not let u not to drink) They drink wine like crazy. In good meaning of course. Advice. Thay always give water to wine. Use it and drink one glass of water beetwen every glass of wine. Other way u will not survive untill end of diner.

Georgian food

by maykal

In Tbilisi at least, there are plenty of restaurants, Georgian and foreign, but the best place to enjoy Georgian cooking is in private homes. It is amazing that even the poorest family would not think twice about inviting a foreigner into their home and providing enough food to feed five thousand. Not to mention all the wine/vodka/cognac and toasting which accompanies any meal... The food in Georgia is delicious...it has influences from Turkey and Iran, and of course Russia, but remains unique. The quintessential Georgian dish is the Khachapuri, which is bread filled with cheese...there are several varieties, and the best is Ajaruli Khachapuri (from the Ajara region around Batumi) which is a boat shaped 'pizza' with an egg added just before serving....and it is very messy (or at least the way I ate it was!). Khinkali is also famous in the region, and is a sort of dumpling filled with...

A friend said this place,...

A friend said this place, restaurant is ok for eating and in Summer it's open! :) Do you know what's common between Lithuanians and Georgians? Shaslyk!!! It's peaces of marinated with spices meat put on the sticks and roasted on fire! One real georgian also tried to convince me that real Georgian shaslyk is also from vegetables only, but many georgians wouldn't sign under this statement! For the meat eaters it's great! :) You can try Georgian food and in Lithuania. for more on Shaslyk check on my Lithuania page Traditional Foods travelogue. It's similar to kebbab in some way, but also different a little.

-: national cuisine: khingali

by Elenoide

This is the main national dish, usually filled with mixed meat and spices, or cheese. Locals eat khingali with the fingers...not as easy as it seems ;)
