Easy cavewalking and easy caveboating

by global_explorer

100 kilometers from Hamadan are the Ali sadr caves. It is a big underground complex of dry and submerged areas who are set up for tourists, and a lot of them. The lonely caveexperience are unlikely mutch of the year. Newertheless, it is a beautifull place, and you can start the trip in a boat who take you on a tour through some of the waterways, surrounded by an intriguing stonelandskcape. Then you land for a walk. There is some nice figures to be seen around, but this is not the most special if you have been into many caves. in there you also can take an expensive tea in the teahouse who sadly play music all the time. The experience is a mix of mass tourism and beautifull nature, it is nice but there certainly is factors of irritation. Some definately will hate the place, others will forget the touristas and consentrate on the stone. After the cave i recomend a stroll trough the quiet...

clay in walls and clay in pots

by global_explorer

Some 30 kilometers from Hamadan lie Lalejin village. It is deservely fameous for its potteryindustry, and visiting the factories, there is an array of them with only a handfull of workers in each. You will see the hole prosess-mixing of clay, forming the trays, sundrying and burning. You will see several designs, it looks as each factory follow a design of its own. You will have no problems to watch, probably you will be invited and served the mandatory tea. if you are lucky the sales attempt will be minimal, the smart thing to do is expecting the worst (leave the monney in the hotel) and hope for the best. The village in itself, the factoryarea in particular are worth a look for its very ancient looking buildings, as you arrive you will get a feeling of having landed n a distant past. The building are made of sundryed claybrics and the houses in the ancient villages of the Indusvalley,...

Modest outside, interesting inside

by global_explorer

Emamzadeh-ye-Abdollah are a small mosque in the middle of a square. From outside it doesen't look like mutch compared to so many other in Iran. It is when you get inside it becomes interesting. First, it is little of the standard tilework, instead the walls are covered with a mosaik of glass, mostly blank pieces with bands of blue, green and golden forming pattern in between. Second, in this small and intimate space it is the ideal ground to observe the peoples display of faith. You can see the usual praying towards Mekka, and you can obseve the worship of the grave in the middle of the room. Alltogether, this is a small but noteworthy attraction.
