Favorite thing: Yazd is located in Central Iran, in the middle of the desert, along one of the old silk road routes. With a population of about 450'000 inhabitants, it famous for its distinctive architecture - ancient mud buildings and wind towers - as well as for its large community of Zoroastrians, the largest in the country. it is also famous for carpet weaving, silk production, delicious sweets and some of Iran's finest saffron.
Fondest memory: The best thing about Yazd are the little lanes, that zig-zag through the old town... it's a maze of mud walls and ancient houses - windtowers (badgirs) are all over, and are very scenic, as well as useful. It's a very laid-back town - there's no rush or major traffic problems - a place where I could see myself living.
