Yazd's bazaar is really a beautiful one - narrow covered lanes and alleys twisting and turning - the perfect place to get lost and savout the atmosphere... it's like a step back in time - in fact it is one of the oldest in Iran.
Important trades in the bazaar are textiles, saddlery and shoemaking - although you will also find some shops selling all sorts of nuts and souvenirs - in particular closer to the mosque. Walking through the bazaar is always a ncie experience, in particular during the hottest hours of the day, where the temperatures stay all the time moderate.
What to buy: Sweets and nuts. For sweets I recommend the "soan", which is a nut-based speciality - but you should not forget to buy pistachios - they are some of the best in Iran, especially the lemon-flavoured ones.
What to pay: Pistachios: a few dollars per kilo

Yazd is one of the cheapest cities in Iran for most goods. The shop-keepers of Yazd are honest people, so you will pay exactly the same low prices as the locals do. That is not always the case in Tehran.
In this greengrocer's store, the oranges were incredibly cheap.

Yazd is famous for its beautiful, hand-crafted, mosaic tiles. You can buy an individual tile to put on the wall when you get back home.
Abbas is a master craftsman. He makes tiles for the Yazd mosques, but he will happily sell them to travellers too.
What to buy: Glazed, mosaic tiles.

One whole section of Yazd Bazaar is devoted to gold jewellery. There is a great selection and prices here are probably as low as you'll find anywhere in Iran.
What to buy: Gold jewellery.

Each tile is made from hundreds of individual fragments, which Abbas deftly cuts to perfection with a couple of taps from his hammer.
