locals taking a camel ride

In Yazd the biggest tourist trap would be the very short camel rides that leave from tomb of the 12 imams. The route: A very short one, indeed - around the tomb. Total riding time: approximately 60 seconds.

I use the conditional because in Yazd, in march 2008, there were hardly any "foreign" tourists - just local ones - so I wonder if this can still be called a tourist trap.

Unique Suggestions: Do as locals do, take that ride. However, camels stink "heavily" - so I gave it a miss, and did not even enquire about the price.

Alexander's Prison

This fairly new looking, adobe building was supposedly built as a prison by Alexander the Great, more than 2,300 years ago! I didn't meet anyone in Yazd who actually believed this story.

It's conveniently located next door to the tourist office and you have to pay 5,000 rials to go in.

This may well be the only tourist trap in Yazd.
