Damavand..the higest point of middle east

by vahiddavoodi Written Jul 6, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Damavand is a towering volcano just 45 miles northeast of Teheran, near the Southern coast of the Caspian Sea. It is surrounded by the smaller and comparatively rugged peaks of the Elburz range, but its great height and classic volcanic shape, unique to the region, grant it dominance and isolation.
Damavand has not erupted in historical times, though occasional steam and sulfur gases exude from the top. The view from the summit is an amazing panorama of Iran's vast expanse of mountains, valleys, and deserts.

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Upon his return from Europe, after visiting several museums and art galleries, Nassereddin Shah decided to establish similar sites in his Palace. He had exterior building destroyed and new ones built on the northwestern wing of Golestan Palace next to the Ivory Hall. These included the lobby, the Mirror Hall and the Museum Room, later known as the Grand Hall or even Grand Throne Room, ever since the Peacock Throne was moved there and the room begun being used for official and state ceremonies. It was in this room, after the modifications, that took place the Coronation of the Shah and Empress Farah in 1967.

TEHRAN a city emerged from the old days is going to become, without the loss of its original identity, one of the most beautiful cities of the hemisphere of the world. A day long tour around the city is not even enough to cover all the attractions of Tehran and another day for visiting monuments and museums is recommended. Every monuments here have their own story and history.

TEHRAN which means *Warm Slope*, was a village in the suburb of the ancient Iranian capital of RAY. After the fall of Ray by the Monggols in 1220 AD ( why uncle Kublai Khan, you attacking this town ? ), its residents move to Tehran and the foundation for it to become a city was thus laid.

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: tehran is a huge city,10 million people, with rich areas(the northern part):shemiran, tajrish. In these areas, you will see modern buildings, comfortable houses, and girls just wear a little hidjab on the hair. The central part, around meydan ferdowsi,is very crowdy. If you go to south tehran, like Rey,you will see more traditional places and people, because it is a poor district.
