iran tehran

Favorite thing: You'll find out that almost all building in the city centre lack reconstruction. This tends to be a problem in all big cities as much as to be done. usually bubilding that are always looking nice are religious buildings where everyday use protects it from getting lost or unused and reconstruction and rebuilt are often done.

Tehran Iran

Favorite thing: Tehran is a huge city with 12 million people. I mean, to go from one part of the city to the other part you'll need more than one hour driving or going in any other way of transportation.

You'll find Tehran to be very organized and clean, taking in consideration its lastest decades growth as been chaotic and without rules, the city centre is quite consistent and pretty much organized in Irani and MIddle East standards.

Fondest memory: I only saw plastic palm tres in Iran. I saw them in the cities in the Persian Gulf and also here in Tehran. Why plastic painted in red palm trees?

Tehran landscape

Favorite thing: Tehran has now very few villas, homes. Everybody is building apartments to accommodate the ever-increasing population of this city.
Bound by mountains, expansion in the north is hard, yet that is the most desirable part of town...

Money and currency
Nourin profile photo
Nourin 82 reviews

Favorite thing: Be aware of that 1000 Rial is 100 toman, which is what most people mention prices is. Just remove one zero from the Rial and you know how much to pay.

You can exchange money in two offices on Ferdosi street, close to Ferdosi sq. Banks are more of a hazzle and people in the street as well.

Be aware that people constantly are trying to overcharge you. If something seems expensive it probably is. Often you can find the same item in other shops if you want to compare.

There are still another price for foreigners in places like hotels and tourist spots. Buses, restaurants and cinemas are examples of places where you get the same prices as Iranians.

Mt.Damavand (5671m), volcano in Iran

Favorite thing: Damavand is a towering volcano just 45 miles northeast of Teheran, near the Southern coast of the Caspian Sea. It is surrounded by the smaller and comparatively rugged peaks of the Elburz range, but its great height and classic volcanic shape, unique to the region, grant it dominance and isolation.
Damavand has not erupted in historical times, though occasional steam and sulfur gases exude from the top. The view from the summit is an amazing panorama of Iran's vast expanse of mountains, valleys, and deserts.
