  • Mikomi Sushi Bar: Here's One To Avoid

by maleficent Written Dec 28, 2012

My family and I were very excited to try out this restaurant so we saved it for a special celebration yesterday. Unfortunately we were left extremely disappointed. What with it being situated in such a nice area and building (the Island) we definitely expected more.

The appetizers were quite good (we had the chicken sticks, edamame, miso soup, and eggroll - though the eggroll was with steamed cabbage, which I'm not a fan of). However, the main event - the sushi - was lacking. Nowhere near the taste-level of Kyoto or Japanika. The freshness is also suspect because we're still feeling it the next day, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN (everyone keeps running to the bathroom!). The dessert I had (chocolate 'trio') was also underwhelming.

Furthermore, the service was pretty atrocious. The waiters all looked like high school students, which isn't a problem for me normally, but they didn't have any uniforms or anything professional looking on. There seemed to be no manager and it was like it was everyone's first day. They got our orders wrong at least three times and were definitely harried looking - running around the place - and not particularly friendly. At one point a waitress basically threw a teaspoon at my father when he said he needed one! It's a real shame because the decor in the restaurant itself is quite nice, though the other diners were pretty loud. Definitely will not be coming back here and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Favorite Dish: The chicken sticks (despite the unappetizing title) were really nice and crunchy; got my hopes up for the rest!

  • Kyoto Poleg: Amazing New Sushi In Netanya

by shermworm Written Apr 20, 2012
    very cool looking place

Kyoto Poleg is a really beautiful restaurant with a unique design. There's really nothing like it in Israel. The ambience is warm and inviting, which is amazing since it is in the Ir Yamim Mall in Netanya. I think it is the best restaurant I've ever been to that's in a mall here in Israel. The fish is super-fresh and the sushi chefs are fast and amazing. The place is kosher, but you cannot say that this has any impact on the quality. I've had the sushi which is great, some of the noodle dishes with meat and chicken, all great and the amazing grilled beef filet and fish dinners. I eat there alot since it's the only excellent restaurant around. The music and lighting are also very cool, and the bar is great! The delivery service is really fast and efficient as well.

Favorite Dish: My favorite dishes are the sushi in general, but specifically Tuna Blue Laguna and the Salsa Roll. They are both made from lots of tuna, which is very sweet and red. Like I said the fish is really fresh and tasty here. Not many places have such excellent tuna in Israel and these guys do. A love the Vulcano salad filled with peanuts and different cabbage. Adn the grilled beef fillet is great.

Bamboo Village: Nice casual beach restaurant

by iblatt Updated Aug 20, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Poleg Beach is one of our favorite beaches in Israel, and it's nice to combine a stay on the beach with a light meal and a drink in Bamboo village (which happens to be the only restaurant on this beach...), with the beach view, breeze and ambience.

There is a wide deck with proper tables and bamboo chairs, and also casual seating in the sand below. As everywhere in Netanya, you are bound to hear French spoken at one of the neighboring tables, and there is a mixed crowd of young and old, romantic couples but also families with little children who prefer playing in the sand to eating their meal.

The menu includes meats, fish, pasta and salads. I enjoyed my chicken breast with cajun seasoning, and P liked her fattoush salad. We both enjoyed the mocca and passiflora icecream for dessert.

One good word about the service: We did not expect much in this type of restaurant, but were pleasantly surprised. Our waiter Nir (and his shift manager as well) made us feel like VIPs! At first we thought they mistook us for real celebs, but then we saw that other customers also received this VIP treatment.

The special thing about this restaurant is that its situated in a furniture&decorations store.
The store is wierd, it seems that someone who came back from India opened it, there are very strange products inside.

Rubenstein's Butchers Restaurant: If you enjoy MEAT, try Rubenstein

    by Martin_S. Updated Sep 15, 2010
    Rubenstein Restaurant, Netanya, Israel

Rubenstein was and still is a butcher shop, the butcher shop is just around the corner from the restaurant, so who else to give you good meat if not the butcher. If you are a local you might be interested in knowing that you can pop around the corner (during the day) and purchase good cuts of meat to take home...
Very quiet music and a decent priced wine selection makes your meat all that much better. The service was excellent and the waiters helpful and friendly.

Favorite Dish: Zohara had the ribs which she enjoyed and I opted for a 300 gram steak, cooked EXACTLY as I requested (and that is unusual in most restaurants, most tend to overcook for you).

Pundak Hayam: The St. Peter's Fish

    by dynamon72 Updated Dec 17, 2007

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Pundak Hayam (Sea Inn) has been in the same place for about forty years and is consistent with the quality of its simple and tasty meals, including fish, chicken, steaks and salads. We always get the same waiter, who has been with the restaurant for many years. He is of the old school, polite and helpful. We feel very much at home there.

Favorite Dish: The St. Peter's fish (Musht) is always large, tasty and satisfying. It comes either with salad and/or French fries. There is also grilled chicken which is just as tasty. Food can also be bought for taking home

    hummus and pita

Just walk up and down the main drag from Atzmaut Square and you will find pancakes, shishlik ,hummus, icecream, coffee bars and Algerian/Tunisian style menus in Hebrew and French due to the large influx of French immigrants over the last few years. You can have a full meal for around 40 shekels.

Favorite Dish: We just had a cheese toast and a plate of chips but it was good..

    Breakfast with the boys
    1 more image

We are part of a group of about 12 Israeli oldtimers who have breakfast here every other Friday morning. Most of the group were schoolmates and the average age is 70. It is also frequented by many of the English speaking locals, mostly from the UK.

The meal comes on a large oval plate. One has a choice of two eggs, cooked according to the person's preference. There is a huge vegetable salad, olives, yellow and white cheeses and there are side dishes such as eggplant and avocado. Coffee Latte comes in large glasses.

Favorite Dish: I love the omelette. I like it plain, but it can be served with cheese or mushrooms.
