Aware of the significance of the city and its port for the security of their kingdom, the Crusaders built a sophisticated system of fortifications composed of walls and towers. On the East - North part of it, a mighty wall separates the city from the mainland. Every time I visit Akko, I like to climb to the top of the wall (there are easy stairs there), absorb the views and the rich past of the place.

Rosh Ha'nikra (rosh = head , ha' = the , nikra = grotto , head of the grotto) is a very beautiful nature reserve on the border of Lebanon.
This is a place where the water made holes in the rocks and now there are caves where you can see the water inside in beautiful colors.

Not as famous as the shrine in Haifa (see travelogue in Haifa page) but still beatiful is the Bahai shrine and garden right next to Akko. To get here drive a little north towards Kibutz Shomrat.
See more in the travelogue.

We took this pic on the edge of one of the walls, be sure you don't lose anybody over the edge when you take a picture. You can walk off the wall here and go for a swim if you would like. The piece of wall sticking up in the background is used as a "diving board" by the local kids.
