    Just a bit of History

by Sharon Written Jan 8, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Caesarea was basically founded by King Herod in 20BC to honor Caesar Augustus.
the very ancient town of Caesarea used to be there capital of the Roman province for almost 600 years.
So..... There's a lot of history in this place,
If you like to read about it you can easily search on the web, or check the following website: http://www.iexplore.com/dmap/Israel/Where+to+Go

    Dor Haboniem Beaches

    by Martin_S. Updated Jul 23, 2008

Favorite thing: Head just north of Caesarea to arrive at the Dor Haboniem beach area. You can see a short section of the beach and one of the small camping areas provided. The water is clean and they also have several more protected areas where kids can swim safely. For some reason this nature preserve is not listed on VT.

    Dor Haboniem shells

    by Martin_S. Updated Jul 23, 2008

Favorite thing: Here at Dor Haboniem beach I enjoy wading the shallows and looking for shells almost as much as I enjoy swimming. Most shells are partially destroyed by the time they make it to the shore for you to find, but occassionally you do find the perfect one.
The next three photos shows the erosion caused by wave action on the cliffsides along the seashore. Seashells have been pushed and moved into every nook and cranny.

    Dor Haboniem area

    by Martin_S. Updated Jul 23, 2008

Favorite thing: That is Rob, risking his neck to look over the cliff into the "Blue Hole" as they have labeled this cleft in the rocks along the Dor Haboniem seashore. You can actually go down into it and stand on a shelf above the water and listen to the action of the waves.
Nathalie and Zohara found a shallow cove to wade in.
A small cove where I took the photos of the shells in the cliff.
Plants abound here even with the salt content of the seawater.
If you are a fisherman, then this is a great place for you, just off these low cliffs the water is already deep, giving you close encounters with fish of the BIGGER kind.

Favorite thing: I have been to Caesarea several of times, it is great place for sightseeing, but also a beautiful sand beach, few nice restaurants, souvenirs shops, and even rock concerts at the Roman amphitheatre.
