Hashmura 1872: If you are looking for the fancy stuff...
Unlike Tel-Aviv or Herzliya, there are not too many fancy restaurants in Haifa. Hashmura (Hebrew for "reservation") is considered the fanciest one. You can come here for French (or French like...) food. While personally I found it not as good as restaurants in the Tel-Aviv area, or even Jerusalem area, it is the best you can do in Haifa. The location is unbeatable though. The house is an old stone house built by the German settlers in the end of the 19th century and from the street you have the best view of the Bahai shrine and gardens which are beautifully illuminated at night.
Hashmura 1872: Memorable meal in Haifa
We ate here in June 2006 and had an excellent meal. This restaurant is in an old stone buidling in the German Colony of Haifa. The street it is on has many restaurants, but this is supposedly the best one. If possible ask to sit downstairs in the wine bar or in one of the several small private rooms. Both choices are very romantic. Food was very good modern French food. Large portions and to die for dessert. We each had something different and all were excellent.Even our teenager was impressed.
Favorite Dish: Beautifully served main meat course and to die for warm dessert
