If you are staying in the Qrayot area, Qiryat Haim in particular, you can watch youth football (soccer) matches for free at the historic Qiryat Haim Stadium. Matches are competitive as the club currently plays in the Liga Leumit l'Noar, the top flight for under-21 football in Israel. There is plenty of seating and matches are generally fun to watch.

Information as to times of play are listed in the major Israeli newspapers. Generally they are on Sabbath mornings around 10:30.

The Maccabi Haifa football club, known also as the "Greens", was founded in 1913. The club is an eighth-time winner of the Israeli Premier League championship and has also appeared 12 times throughout the years in the state cup finals, wining it five times.

In the 2002/03 season the club had qualified, for the first time in Israel's history, for the UEFA Champions League. Matches are generally on the Sabbath at Kiryat Eliezer Stadium in Haifa. The price of a ticket generally ranges from NIS 50-80 for an adult and must be paid in New Israeli Shekels.

a man on a sailboard

Good winds and a beautiful sea are always a good thing if you want to enjoy sailboarding.

We saw a lot of people sailboarding near the southern exit and very close to Yotavata in town.

Kiryat Eliezer Stadium

In 1924, a rival was formed for Maccabi Haifa. Hapoel Haifa has accomplished many great things in Israel but has been languishing a bit and bouncing in between the Ligat ha'Al (Premier League) and Liga Leumit (National League), though because of financial difficulties it makes it even easier to see with deals like free entrance for kids etc. They play at Kiryat Eliezer in Haifa and are definently worth seeing when they play Maccabi in the Haifa derby. Most matches are on the Sabbath (Saturday) and the prices vary.

Equipment: Not all the sightlines in Kiryat Eliezer are perfect so a pair of binoculars could help.

This is probably the most successful Israeli football club, they even qualified once to the European champions league and did not play bad at all.
