the the roundabout in the 2/3 area before the summit of Mount Tabor lies the Mount Tabor Taxi Stand that ferries Tourists and Pilgrims to and from the Top of Mount Tabor (again, the road is verry narrow going to the top as such the large buses cannot directly go to the top). It also houses a few souvenir stands and stalls that sells touristy Items and christian Religous Items as most visitors going to Mount Tabor are Christian Pilgrims on a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The souvenir stalls here also sell snacks, shawarma's, kebab, pasta's pizza's, cool drinks and cool bottled water and souvenir items like keychains, fridge magnets, post cards, books and more.

Opens: 8:00 am to 7:00 pm everyday

What to buy: religous items like crosses, crucifixes, rosaries, bibles, etc. souvenir items like post cards, fridge magnets, maps, post cards, shot glasses, etc, and snack foods or ice cream or bottle water and drinks.

What to pay: the food items and drinks have a fix price while the souvenir and religious items can he haggled

Kefar Tavor Off The Beaten Path

  • machomikemd's Profile Photo

I'm a Roman Catholic and the reason I went on a middle east jaunt is to join a pilgrimage in the Holy Land and since I'm with a Christian Pilgrim Group, we would have daily masses along biblical sites and off course since our pilgrimage priest is also Roman Catholic, we were allowed to celebrate mass inside the Church of the Transfiguration as this is after all, a Roman Catholic Church, under the Cutody of the Fransciscan Religous Order. For Christian, celebrating mass here is surreal as this is the supposed site of the Miracle of the Transfiguration, where Jesus and three of his apostles go to a mountain (the Mount of Transfiguration). On the mountain, Jesus begins to shine with bright rays of light. Then the prophets Moses and Elijah appear next to him and he speaks with them. Jesus is then called "Son" by a voice in the sky, assumed to be God the Father, as in the Baptism of Jesus.

You can celebrate mass at the Church by asking permission from the Franciscan Monks and are only allowed from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm everyday.
