Favorite thing: Mount of Beatitudes or Mount of Happiness (Osher) - the Hebrew name, based on the Hebrew translation (Beati = Ashrei).
According to the tradition, the Mount of Beatitudes is the place where Jesus gave his important Sermon on the Mount to the multitude that assembled to see and hear him. A church, monastery, hostel and gardens and farm are located on the hill.
The mountain is located above Tabcha - 175 m higher than the Sea of Galilee, yet 35 m under the Mediterranean Sea level.

Favorite thing: Tiberias Lake, also the Sea of Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee, Lake of Gennesaret, or Lake Kinneret is the largest freshwater lake in Israel. It is approximately 53 km in circumference, about 21 km long, and 13 km wide. The lake has a maximum depth of approximately 43 m. At 209 meters below sea level, it is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth.

You can watch my 3 min 32 sec HD Video Kinneret Lake out of my Youtube channel.

Yardenit - Up river, Israel

Favorite thing: This is the river as it looks upstream from Yardenit. We are only about a kilometer from where it flows into the Sea of Galilee. This small river is fed by 3 or 4 fresh water springs in the surrounding hills.

Baptism at Sea of Galilee, Israel

Favorite thing: This is the place where many Christians on pilgrimages to Israel come to be baptized or re-baptized.. Gil and I took Andie, Gulench and Gabrielle there for a short visit. You can see we were lucky enough to find a group doing the actual ceremony when we arrived. On the left you can see the pilgrims all dressed in white robes and on the right, immersed waist deep in the water the priest.

No longer Syria border

Favorite thing: This lake was one of the causes of the Six-Day War which resulted in Israel's occupation of the Golan Heights (east of Lake Kinneret).

From 1967 Lake Kinneret was no longer the border between Israel and Syria.

In terms of VT lists, it seems that I have travel as well to Syria lol, what a pity they did not stamp on my passport lol, many places are still located under Syria.

Please I do not mean to argue politically if it is right or not lol, just a geographical fact.

Map of Tiberias

Favorite thing: A famous resort town, since the Roman times. While the roman period it was the second largest spa.

Tiberias is a good base for excursions to Capernaum and the entire Galilee. In our case it was the last visit point of our tour at the North of Israel, next time I will give this area more time.

Due to the fear of the terrorism, tiberias today seems to have lost all the tourism ...

I feel really sorry for all the hotels, and shops

Carmen at the ruins

Favorite thing: Home to at least five of the twelve disciples.

Remeber you ahve to wear modest clothes (I wonder what that means really) not posh ones? lol

try to get with you always something so you do not show some areas of your body, specially if you are a women, seems that men´s legs are not so exiciting lol

Fondest memory: At the north part of the Sea of Galilee is the remains of this Synagogue

It is said to be built over the remains of the original one where Jesus preached sermons and also the house of Peter.

You will find the remains of a synagogue and mosaics from a fifth-century chapel.

Water from the Jordan river
Carmela71 profile photo

3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Carmela71 2996 reviews

Favorite thing: The upper Jordan River descends from its mountain to the Jordan Rift Valley to supply Lake Tiberias.

Other streams and wadis (seasonal watercourses) flow into the lake from the hills of Galilee.

Due toe the minerals of the mountains and the strong evaporation, the water is a little salty.
