We took a side trip on the way home from Nahariya and stopped at this crusader castle in Yehiam near the Kibbutz famous for its meat products. The site belongs to the Israel Parks authority and is a beautiful place to picnic and to look at the view of the surrounding area from the top of the citadel. IT was inhabited by the Crusaders, the Turks and the first inhabitants of the Kibbutz ,100 of whom were killed defending the place in the War of Independence. There is also a Renaissance Festival held here during Succot where there are costumed historical characters telling the story of the place, Children's activities and musical recitals. We were there the day before these things occurred so the castle was already decorated for the events.

Well really the only thing to do here is to get your book out and sit on the beach. We went to the beach nearest our hotel which was great. It was a paying beach but it only cost 10 shekel and I prefer to pay that and have a clean toilet and changing rooms. It is very quiet here mostly families and even on the Saturday it was not too crowded. There is a breakwater so the sea is calm and you get to see the waves breaking on it without the hassle of swimming in them (if you are like me and not a great swimmer).
The water is clean and lovely and there is a restaurant selling chips and ices etc. There is also an Olympic size pool there but we were happy with the sea.....

Address: Galei Galil Beach, Nahariya.
Nahariya has its own seaside promenade, as a proper resort town should.
We walked there on a summer Saturday evening, and it was very lively and pleasant. The central part is a pedestrian zone, with cafes and restaurants on one side and the beach on the other. The beach is relatively narrow, so that when you walk on the promenade the sea is always near.
In the center there is a plaza, where the Ga'aton Boulevard meets the promenade. At the northern end there is a pier, with a nice view of the beaches to the north and to the south from the end of the pier. This is also a favorite spot for Nahariyans to watch the sunset over the Mediterranean.

Yet another spot that is not on the VT database, so Rosh-HaNikra will be put here in Nahariyah, the largest close town which is about 20 minutes drive south of Rosh-HaNikra along the Med coast.

This is a beautiful site of caves carved out of the white rock jutting into the ocean where you can take a cable car down to to caves from the cliff above and spend time not only seeing, but also feeling and hearing the sea as it meets the cliffs and caves.

Nahariya could be translated as "the city of the river" and there is indeed a small river flowing through the heart of the city. This is the Gaaton river, which in the summer months almost dries up.
The street on both banks of the river is the street where most shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels can be found.

This is the place to be in Nahariya. A nice place to walk or cycle, to sit and watch the sea, or to have a drink in an outdoor cafe.

Nahariya is the most northern city along Israels coastline, between the old town of Acco (Acre) and Rosh Haniqra, the Lebanese border. It is a wealthy town with an attractive seaside boulevard.
