There are many bomb shelters in Qiryat Shemona and they have been much needed across decades and several wars. The latest use for bomb shelters was during July-August 2006 war when hundreds of Hizbollah rockets from Lebanon hit the town. Here you can see pictures of the closest bomb shelter to my home. The newer buildings (built after 1992) have 'security rooms' which are rocket proof and there is no need to go down to a bomb shelter. Leave a Comment

Djembe Drum Cactus by Trillian2005 Many residents in K8, but at least one I know of for sure, enjoy raising the Djembe Drum Cactus. It grows best in a miniature djembe drum in the side yard where it is sheltered from too much light, water, and gangs of street cats. It likes to have its peace and quiet and does not well in a noisy environment, especially when it's exposed to loud drumming and percussion. It needs lots of TLC. Leave a Comment

Streets cats are the first animals one sees when arriving in K8. From their point of view the town is theirs and they call it 8C - eight cats. Here you see Dr. Schwartz having a drink from a water lily pot (that actually is a baby's bath tub found in rubbish - rubbish is another local custom of K8, but I am not giving more information for now.) in my garden. Christmas cactus blooms also in K8 in December even though its owners are jewish and celebrate Chanukka. Leave a Comment

Locals having fun by haiamisa Any time is a good party time. If it is a wedding, a brit- mila, bar mitzva, bat mitzva... or just a party for the sake of "we haven't had a party for ages" , you are most likely invited. Too many parties - not enough time! Leave a Comment

A bombshelter with new paintings by haiamisa After 'The Second Lebanon war' - the war against Hizbollah in July-August 2007 many bomb shelters in town were decorated with wall paintings to make them look 'more friendly'. At least they look a bit nicer! Leave a Comment

Most people keep flowers on their window sill but my neighbour placed a Katjusha rocket that hit the town in July 2006 on his window sill.. Leave a Comment

Local First Aid Clinic by haiamisa Our 'Red Cross' is of course Red David's star. That is the symbol on the ambulances and the first aid clinics. This is the sign of the local First Aid Clinic, close to the central bus station (Egged). Leave a Comment

by haiamisa The most common hot drink in K8 area is Turkish coffee. To prepare it you have to know the art of making it. Normally it is made on gas and not on electricity as in this picture. Leave a Comment
