Pilot meeting does leasure biking on Shabbat morn by haiamisa This modest 3 seat bicycle (why did we ride a 3 seat if we were only 2? Just in case we wanted to take a hitch-hiker birdwatcher on the way - I am not telling if it happened.) can take you easily around the new Hula nature reserve for birdwatching. You can rent it for the modest price of 110 NIS (not 120NIS like the The Penultimate Guide to K8 claims - it is your choice whom you want to believe) as we did for the Pilot VT meeting (It was a blast!). Why bike? Click on the website below for the answer! Leave a Comment

If you don't own a car the best way to travel to K8 is by bus. The most famous is the legendary 842 that has been arriving from Tel-Aviv at least as long as I remember. 842 express drives via Afula and stops there for 10 minutes for a "run to the toilets" break. 840 express drives via Afula too, but makes a stop also in Tiberias. 845 drives via Zichron and is called the fast bus. I have no idea what is the difference between a fast bus and an express... maybe the fast one is 10 minutes faster than an express bus... or the other way around. Interesting facts: Gabi comes and goes by 842! I have used 842 for the last time in 2001. Leave a Comment

The best and cheapest public transport from Tel Aviv to K8 is via the 842 Express. This bus connection is so fabulous that it became the name of a fabulous K8 rock band. A one-way ticket T.A. - K8 only costs NIS 53 (about EUR 10) for a distance of about 200 km. This is a price that can't be beaten. Only walking is cheaper. The bus company is Egged and their buses are safe, comfortable, reliable, and air-conditioned in the summer. You'll have the chance to meet nice Israelis on the bus, especially lots of attractive soldiers. Unlike long-distance buses in the USA (e.g. Greyhound) Egged buses don't have restrooms (a.k.a. toilets) on board. The 482 Express makes a 10-minute rest and refreshment stop half way in Afula. If you're a fan of restrooms/toilets, refrain from drinking too much water, etc. before boarding the bus - it takes about 1.5 hours to Afula and from there another 1.5 hours to K8. There are, of course, other public transport options from T.A. to K8, such as by airplane, but this is considerably more expensive. The train, however, is not an option (although Israeli trains are excellent), simply because railway tracks to K8 don't exist yet. The closest train station would probably be Akko, but from there you'd still have to go on a 1.5-hour bus trip to K8. Leave a Comment

Hermon taxi station at Rasko K8 by haiamisa K8 has several taxi stations. It is very convenient to use taxis around the town. Any distance within town costs 13 NIS only and distances a bit off town are 17 NIS. My favorite taxi station is Hermon taxis, managed by druze from Golan Heights. Their drivers are very professional, polite and most of the cars are Mercedes Benz. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The public transport in Qiryat Shemona has improved alot recently as three more bus routes were added. Now there are five bus lines within the town: Lines 1,2,3,4,5. Lines 1, 2 and 5 stop at the bus stop just beside my home. The line number 5 is the best as it takes you to the central bus station (Egged) and back. The buses depart from Egged at: 9.00,9.30,10.00,10.30.....and so on till 18.30,19.00 in the evening. The bus reaches my home about 7-8 minutes after departing at Egged. If coming to visit me, just hop on number 5 bus and you can have tea with me after 10 minutes. And it is cheap too! A single ticket costs 4.70 NIS and a daily ticket (travel as much as you want) costs only 6.60 NIS (Prices for Feb 2008) Leave a Comment Theme: Bus
