K8 has been hit by rockets from terrorists in Lebanon on and off for several decades by now. These are pictures from August 2006, after 34 days of war with Hizbollah.... There are many bomb shelters in the town and newer houses have special 'security rooms' which are 'missile safe'. Leave a Comment

Forest /bush fires start easily here in summer when we don't have rain for many months. In these pictures you can see the mountain behind my house burning.... but not burning because of a cigarette or something like that... a rocket (katjusha) fell here during the war with Hizbollah (in Lebanon) in July 2006... Menara Cliff is a fantastic observation point near Kiriat Shemona. As its name indicates, it is located on a cliff from where you have a fascinating view of Kiriat Shemona and the surrounding scenery, including the mountains bordering Lebanon and Syria. You can reach Menara Cliff via car or cable car and enjoy the view from above. Please don't lean over the fence at the edge of the cliff! If you do, this will be your fate awaiting you shortly (see picture). Leave a Comment

Not so much traffic yet by haiamisa It is winter and heavy rains have fallen, this means snow in Mt.Hermon and all the folks want to go to ski or play in the snow during the sunny weekends. The roads get really blocked by hundreds of cars from the early morning and in the afternoon when everybody returns home. It can be very tiring. What to do? The most important thing it to drive VERY early in the morning, before most folks wake up. I have no idea how to avoid the afternoon traffic though... Leave a Comment

Destination: ground zero by haiamisa This bus is often met at the central bus station of K8. It is the 000 bus on number 0 platform. Don't board it! It might take you to ground zero... we are after all very close to Lebanon border here... Leave a Comment

Cacti covered with hail in my garden by haiamisa Winters here can be chilly. Temperatures can be under +10C, the mountains have snow and sometimes there is hail even in K8. Take a jacket, sweater and warm socks! Leave a Comment

Beware mines! by haiamisa There are many mine fields in the Golan Heights. These fields were left as they were after the Six Day War in 1967. There is a fence and a warning sign around them. Do not try your luck and enter these fields! Leave a Comment
