Capernaum in the New Testament time

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Capernaum was a settlement on the shore of the Sea of Galilee in ancient time. The site is a ruin today, unfortunately. The original name in Hebrew is Kfar Nahum or “Nahum’s village”.The town is mentioned in the New Testament. It was reported to have been the home of the apostles Peter, Andrew, James and John, as well as Matthew.Jesus taught in the synagogue in Capernaum on the Sabbath. In Capernaum also, Jesus healed a man who had the spirit of an unclean devil and healed a fever in Simon Peter's mother-in-law. It is also the place where a Roman Centurion asked Jesus to heal his servant.

Mount of Beatitudes & Sermon on the Mount

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

The Mount of Beatitudes and the Church of the Beatitudes are located on the Sea of Galilee near Tabgha and Capernaum. The Church is built on the traditional site of Jesus' delivery of the Sermon on the Mount. The current Church sits near the ruins of a small Byzantine era church dating to the late 4th century. The Sermon on the Mount In the Gospel of St. Matthew is a compilation of Jesus' sayings, epitomizing his moral teaching. Jesus of Nazareth gave this sermon (estimated around AD 30) on a mountainside to his disciples and a large crowd.

Kineret-Yardenit Baptismal site

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Yardenit is the Baptismal site located at the Southern end of the Sea of Galilee. The baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist is described in Matthew, told briefly in Mark, mentioned in Luke, and implied in John. In these texts John performs an important ritual: announcing that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah.Since the New Testament texts do not provide identification with a known landmark, there are several traditions on the site along the long Jordan river. Some point to the Yardenit area closer to the Sea of Galilee, some go south to Beit Shean, others to the section near Jericho near the Dead Sea.

Nazareth-childhood home of Jesus

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Nazareth is the largest city in the North District of Israel. The city is interesting because it is described in the New Testament as the childhood home of Jesus. That’s why it is a center of Christian pilgrimage. It has many shrines commemorating biblical events.Nazareth was the home of Joseph and Mary and the site of the Annunciation according to the Gospel of Luke. Mary was told by the Angel Gabriel that she would have Jesus as her son.Joseph and Mary resettle in Nazareth after fleeing to Egypt from their home in Bethlehem according to the Gospel of Matthew. The differences and possible contradictions between these two accounts of the nativity of Jesus are part of the Synoptic Problem.

THE HULA VALLEY NATURE RESERVE

by Jackiekg

Lake Hula (the Biblical Lake Merom) is in northern Israel not far from the Kinneret and is well worth a visit. The surrounding swamps were drained to suit agricultural needs but now thinking is different and a small section of this area has been reswamped. It is an important bottleneck site for birds migrating along the Syrian-African Rift Valley between Africa, Europe, and Asia. It is a pleasant area to visit, but on my recent trip there, birds were not to be found! We were told they would return in the evening. Luckily by speaking to someone working there we were told to go to the Hula Lake, a few minutes down the road, and we weren't disappointed there. Photos and info here are of the Hula Valley Nature Reserve. It is a lovely place here with lots of grasses and swamp plants. We spent 1 1/2 hours wondering around, but were disappointed on this occasion not to see lots of birds. All year...

Ein Hod Artists Village

by Martin_S.

Just south of Haifa, on highway 4, you will find the artists village of Ein Hod. A wonderful place to visit and just "wander". Rebuilt from abandoned old stone homes, the artists have made this a museum, a studio, an art store and their home.Take a good look at the first picture, it is the bus stop, not your usual one made of plastic and glass, and this typifies Ein Hod.You can see in the second and third pictures some of the small "corners" that give the village a venue for taking a few hours to walk around. The fourth photo shows one of the many stautes and other art pieces adorning the streets and homes here, just imagine coming around the corner and meeting the "silver surfer".Someones flight of fancy produced this last sculpture of the "Couple in a Can", took a look inside to see what we could see in the can, but won't reveal that secret here, you will have to stop by and look for...

Rosh Ha'nikra - beautiful nature reserve

by ophiro

The place is a nature reserve because of the grottos.the water made holes in the rocks.Inside the caves you can see different colors of water , depends on the weather and time.Rosh ha'nikra is close to the border with Lebanon. The place is open from 8:30-18:00 on every day of the week except friday that the place is open from 8:30-16:00.From november , because we switched to winter clock , the place is open from 8:30-16:00.The ticket prices to enter Rosh Ha'nikra are not too high :38 nis for an adult and 30 for a child. If you are a student or disabled the price will be 34 nis as far as i remember.
