Favorite thing: The Muslim Quarter is one of the four quarters of the ancient, walled Old City of Jerusalem. It is situated in the northeastern corner of the Old City. The Quarter is the largest and most populous and extends from the Lions' Gate in the east, along the northern wall of the Temple Mount in the south, to the Damascus Gate-Western Wall route in the west.
You can enter the Muslim Quarter through the Damascus Gate or the Lions' Gate, or the Herod’s Gate. The most interesting site for Christians is the Via Dolorosa road which starts in the quarter, St. Anne’s Church, the Birthplace of Virgin Mary, the Monastery of Flagellation, the Lithostrotos, and the Convent of the Sisters of Zion, the Ecce Homo Arch, and the Church of St. Veronica.

The Greek Orthodox allege that the real place that Jesus was held was the similarly named Prison of Christ, within their Monastery of the Praetorium, located near the Church of Ecce Homo, at the first station on the Via Dolorosa.
There are also five Mosques.

Favorite thing: The Jewish Quarter is one of the four traditional quarters of the Old City. The Quarter is situated in the southeastern corner of the Old City. You can enter it through the Zion Gate or the Dung Gate or through the Jaffa Gate passing along the Armenian Quarter.
The most interesting sites there: the Western Wall Plaza, Cardo Street, Hurva Synagogue, Ophel Archaeological Park. The most famous site of the Jewish Quarter is the Western Wall, ha-kotel ha-ma'aravi in Hebrew, the only surviving portion of the retaining wall around the Temple of Jerusalem.

Favorite thing: The Old City is about 1 square kilometre walled area within the modern city of Jerusalem.
Until the middle of the XIXth century this area constituted the entire city of Jerusalem.
Traditionally, the Old City has been divided into four quarters, although the current designations were introduced only in the 19th century. Today the Old City is divided into the Muslim Quarter, the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter.

The Old City is home to several sites of great religious importance: the Temple Mount and its Western Wall for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians, and the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims.

Favorite thing: The Christian Quarter is one of the four quarters of the ancient, walled Old City of Jerusalem. The Christian Quarter is situated in the northwestern corner of the Old City.
You can enter the Christian Quarter through the New Gate or the Jaffa Gate.
The Christian quarter contains several tens Christian holy places. Among them is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of Christianity's holiest places. You can also find there the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the Church of St John the Baptist, the Muristan, the Russian Alexander’s Podvorie and many other sites including the Mosque of Omar.

Favorite thing: The Armenian Quarter is the smallest of the four quarters of the Old City. The Quarter is situated in the southeastern corner of the Old City. You can enter it through the Jaffa Gate or the Zion Gate. There a lot of Christian Holy places such as: the Cathedral of St James, the Church of the Archangels, the St. Toros Church, Edward and Helen Mardigian Museum.

Some Christian historians believed the site of the Armenian Quarter is also the Biblical Mount Zion, a name currently used for the area- a parcel of land highly coveted by other nations and religions.

Favorite thing: Old Jerusalem is an ancient Holy City intrically woven with religions - the heart of the Holy Land. Three religions claim it as the gateway to Heaven.

There is so much to see here that it's overwhelming. A good map showing all the important sites is a must. There are winding streets and alleyways just waiting to be explored, AND with a guide or a good map you CAN SEE IT ALL.

At the time I was there, it was peaceful and lively. Everyone seemed to be living in peace and harmony - WHAT CAN'T IT STAY THAT WAY!!

Fondest memory: The Dome of the Rock is such a shiney gold it seems to be the only other color than the sand colored ancient walls, but the real color in Jerusalem is its people.

There are Ethiopian priests in flowing golden robes and headress -- they seem to float through the streets. There are all the Jewish sects; those from Europe with curls dangling from their caps, some with fur hats and long distinguished beards. There are the Greek Orthodox priests in their black robes with giant crosses hanging from their necks. Beudoin ladies with colorful headresses, Muslim ladies with their long dresses and head coverings, and Israelis in western style casual clothing.

Such diversity of people and customs I've never seen in any other country.

Favorite thing: We found this beautiful portal or entrance to a building courtyard in the Jewish Quarter. You may notice the "hand" above the arch, this may have been a symbol of a artist, what do you think a hand may have symbolized. Was this the Jewish percusor to CocaCola advertising??

Favorite thing: religious jews live together in new appartements in the jewish quarter of the old city ; many jews buy a flat here , even those who live abroad

Favorite thing: We found this wood and bronze door at the entrance to a Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter. The bronze work was beautiful.

Favorite thing: This is Robinson's Arch, don't have any idea why the name, so will have to go look it up and add later. You can find it in the Jewish Quarter.
