Egon: Bizarre hangout
Located off one of the small alleys of Jerusalem's downtown, is Egon's Cafe/Bar. It is extremely popular among young American and British tourists but seems to have no real special or unique qualities. It is simply a small hole in wall with alcohol and typical cheap food. If you do decide to go in, get some beers and a nargila (water pipe). I am positive though that you will see nicer places on the major alleyways. Entrance is said to be from age 22 and up but the place is litered with kids who are underage.

    Haoman 17: A world-class Nightclub
this place is DA SHiiiT and I mean it of course in a positive connotation. The place boasts two dance floors that can hold up to say 200 and a state-of-the-art lighting setting with digital screen along with all the sophisticated special effects and a Sushi Bar. OK. The bar is really expensive and the food is alright. But what's really cool is that you can check out all the party animals on the dancefloor from a glass window. The best parites are usually held at Thursdays and Fridays, or on special occasions like Independence Day. They usally host really good DJs, some of the best in Israel(and I mean Israel is good in Trance just as Holland is good in soccer, always 4th place!). Last year(2004) they even had DJ Tiesto there(I didn't go. what a shame) Most parties are designated for 24 + and on some other times students and soldiers(usually Friday nights). Entrance on average is about 70 sheckels. yep. it's expensive alright. If you want some more information knock yourself out(not too hard...) and check out their website http://www.haoman.com

I'm not sure about sneakers, it'll be better if you won't wear them. Dress properly. You know what I mean. And if you don't. just observe the way the people in the pics dress up. Don't be too wierd, go there with someone whos older than you if you know you're underaged, it works sometimes. And of course always show your student card, just for the sake of it. A good word of advice, don't argue too much with the security guards or the people who work there, they tend to be very agitated at times.

List of areas and cafes: Cool Cafes
There are good cafes in the center of town in teh Ben Yehuda general area. But the locals are more likely to go to Emek Refaim street or Aza Street, or one of the cafes on Hillel street parallel to Ben Yehuda and two blocks away. There are good restaurants here too. I would pick Aroma, or Fuccacio, or Caffit in Emek Refaim. In Aza street Cafe Filter is pretty cool.

Mike's Place: Mike's Place in Jerusalem
Although the better attraction is Mike's Place in Tel-Aviv. Mike's place is an excellent place to come if you are a tourist or a local in Jerusalem. There are many American ex-patriots who visit the bar and the live music is usually really cool. This is also the best place to get your favorite beer from home (they have a good selection of exported beers). The pub has moved around a few times, and this final location is the best. At summer they have a large open court-yard with an outside bar, and at summer it is transformed into a heated tent. You can enjoy playing snooker and recently they have opened a kitchen which serves great junk-food. On some days (Halloween, 4th of July etc...) Mike's Place has parties (costumes, pimp & hoes, bar dancing...) and which time the place can be really packed! All in all I really recommend this place.

    Anything you want.

    Nachalat Shiv'a: Nachalat Shiv'a
One of the best places to go for a cup of coffee or a dinner is the Nachalat Shiv'a area. Just walk in the streets and admire the beautiful old stone houses. One of the many restaurants or cafés will surely be to your taste.

  • Theme: Eating and Drinking
  • Directions: Nachalat Shiv'a is located betweenYaffo street and Hillel street.

Yes, even in one of the most religious cities on earth there is a small but steady community of Gays and Lesbians and their straight friends as me who just like to enjoy life, music, dancing and happyness. And the best place to find all this is Shoshan-Gay Bar and Club. It is open daily from 9:00 pm, except on Sundays and on some weekends shows great Dragqueen performances or special parties. To emphasise this: If you are straight and you go there you will not be harassed in any way! People are extremely tolerant and nice at Shoshans! I went there quite often with gay and straight friends and we had fun every time we'd been there. On the other hand, the community has a hard life in Jerusalem. There had been attacks against the Pride Parade and Shoshan in recent months. So if you go there you also show your support of the community and they will love you for this!

Sexy, funky or whatever you like. If you like Drag-style, feel free to go there this way. Otherwise just have fun as you are :-)

    The Basement: Local dancing
This was the only strip club to be found in Jerusalem and it was only on Monday nights after 11p.m. The dancing wasn't bad either, it was mainly Russian women drove in from Tel Aviv who did the dancing and they were all in pretty good shape.
