    You'll find the Armenian Tavern right along, where else - the Armenian Patriarchate Road, a few blocks to the right of the Jaffa Gate entrance. I love the decor of this place, and the fact that it's got so much Armenian flavor to it. The salads are great and the food in general is pretty good. It's definitely a place to visit for lunch or dinner - especially since there aren't too many decent restaurants (in my opinion) within the Old Walled City.

    Hamishpacha (The family) has as good food as you can guess from the name. The food tastes as if somebody's mother has cooked it. We had 'the business lunch' which included starters, main course and drinks. We had hummous and chicken soups for starters and grilled chicken and grilled 'Jerusalem mixture' (which has chicken, chicken liver and chicken hearts) with baked potatoes and chips. Every portion cost only about 45 NIS! It is hard to beat that price! (This was in June 2006)

    I still can't see a connection between Jaffa Gate and Jaffa Cakes. Perhaps they were originally baked near Jaffa Gate, or one or the other busy tourist running around to experience Jerusalem in 1.5 hours accidentally dropped a box of them, after a hurried lunch, at Jaffa Gate. Or perhaps they are named after Old Jaffa. But that is near Tel Aviv and has nothing to do with Jerusalem. Anyway, Jaffa Cakes are delicious and taste orange. No, I don't have synesthesia, I'm talking about the flavor.

  • This place has been recommended me by friends but I did not have the chance to visit there yet. When I will have the chance, I will let you know how was it.

    This place is just behind the Novotel hotel where I stayed. Friendly and relativeley inexpensive Arabic food, washed down with lots of beer, Yum! Yum! I had the obiquitous salads hummous etc., then lamb kebabs. Excellent quality and value for the money. I sat outside under a linen awning that puffed and rose with every breeze. Gentle Middle Eastern music wafted across my table. I was alone but happy with the experience

  • My favorite dish was the humus, I couldn't get enough of it, each restaurant makes it a little different, but always good.

    In Jerusalem, along the outer wall, I had the best Falafals that I've ever eaten. Well, I hope so, it IS the national dish!! I just haven't found any that compare since.

    The best (and probably most expensive...) restaurant in Israel. Located in an old stone house with a beautiful court and serving French food with an Israeli touch.
