Whenever in the Jewish Quarter, you better choose a pitta with zatar and labaneh from this bacery then from the other too touristy pizza and felafel places. It is close to the Cardo.

We had an excellent meal there and the atmosphere is very plesant, you can look across some of the parts of Ein Karem and just enjoy the fresh air of the hills of Jerusalem.

The name "Anashiem" means "People" in Hebrew. If you look closely at the sign in the picture you will notice something. When I was taking this picture Zohara, Stacey and Carmen all asked me "What in the world are you taking a picture of a sign for", I told them "Take a closer look and you will see why!!"

Bistro is in Ein Karem, Jerusalem and it hosts a very good house bread, that you can have with salads. We had two portions because the girls were so pleased with the house bread. You also get several types of spreads for the bread.

    Armenian Tavern: Armenian Tavern
  • Satisfaction:
  • This restaurant is located in an ancient Crusader church in the old city of Jerusalem. The food is not the main thing here, it's decent, but no more than any other restaurant. But, the atmosphere is very special. You go down the stairs into the ancient basement full with Armenian tiles. The food served here is somewhat similar to Turkish food (don't tell them that!!!).

    Aroma: Good Cafe
  • Satisfaction:
  • You can find Aroma cafes at a lot of places, including the shopping mall, Hillel Street in the center of town (two blocks from ben Yehuda), Emek Refaim street and the new one by the University in Mount Scopus (this is the nicest one). It is just a cafe but I love it. Their sandwiches are interesting, get your sandwich with onion bread.

Haloumi cheese sandwich is really good. Get 'cafe Aroma' the house coffee, it is like cappuchinno but with a ton of chocolate and cream in it, you don't have to add any sugar. Or just get a cappuchino.

Azzahra Hotel & Restaurant: The best Pizza in Jerusalem!
  • Satisfaction:
  • Azzahra-Restaurant is a unique place in Jerusalem. It is the only one (as far as I know) that serves fresh handmade Pizza directly out of an Italian Pizza oven! It has a nice familiar ambience with a garden area and can be also reserved for groups, meetings, parties. Go there and tell them I send you! (I lived in their hotel area for quarter a year ;-)

Try the Pizzas! Azzahra has a huge variety and someday a special-day-pizza. To the pizza order a big fresh Taybeh-beer in an original Taybeh-mug! It's the best beer in the whole Middle East (visit my Taybeh travel tip)! Sahtain!
