The German Colony is one of those old Jerusalem neighborhoods with a special character and architecture. Emek Refa'im Street is always teeming with life (in the more sedate, Jerusalem sense of the word) in the evenings.
Caffit is well known to the Yerushalmim (=people of Jerusalem), a nice place to have a meal right on Emek Refa'im, indoors or outside in the garden. The menu is vegetarian, so when you order a "mozarella hamburger" don't expext a cheeseburger but rather a cheesy, meatless "burger".
If you enjoy "people watching" you will see the Yerushalmim all around you and notice how different they are from the Tel-Avivians!
Favorite Dish: The well known dish of Caffit is the yam (sweet potato) salad. The portions are generous and tasty.

This place is so small but yet so famous. If you find yourself close to Ben Jehuda street and feel like eating something sweet, ask people for Makom de Babette (Babette's Place). If they don't know they are not from Jerusalem. Everyone will point you enthusiastically to this place. It is so small you will definitely need people's help to find it. And yes, the wafles are delicious.

We had lunch here and sat outside. The place was so busy! I wanted to take home a teacup and saucer as a souvenir because I liked the place so much. The cute guy behind the counter said the cost would be the price of a beverage - can you believe that?? And he insisted that I take a beverage, so I opted for a bottled water. He left by the front door, went around back and a little later came back with the cup and saucer (and a spoon) wrapped in clear cellophane and tied with raffia. I was speechless!
Favorite Dish: I didn't bother with anything except a bagel, cream cheese and Diet Coke.

Rachmo is a cheap eating cafe in Salomon street, next to Hillel Street. It offers good and tasteful dishes, for example the Iraqi cube soup.
But I have to give a warning: the food is prepared at the start of the day. You have to eat here at, say 2 PM. If you eat at 6PM (the traditional Dutch dinner time) do it at your own risk, there might be a chance of stomach problems. The cafe is closed at 7 PM.

This is one of those finds that, whilst the entrance is tucked down a side street, everyone seems to have been there. And becasue of its location (top two floors of a central Old City building) with a wonderous terrace with views across the rooftops to the Mosque, St John the Baptist and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre etc it's not really surprising!
Top floor is a large and open terrace (thankfully with some cover - the Jerusalem sun can get mighty hot) with those views. Surprisingly, they do not try to cram too many tables on the terrace - plenty of space to walk round with camera in hand without disturbing other diners. It's nothing fancy by any stretch of the imagination - plastic garden chairs and formica top tables.
Next floor down is the indoor part of restaurant - large room with what looked like tablecloths etc - but as prefered the terrace, didn't wander in.
Favorite Dish: Papa Andrea's is a simple Middle Eastern & Arabic grill bar - salads, kebabs, grilled meats, grilled fish followed by balclawa etc.. It's not the cheapest in the old city - NIS45-75 for main course. It's not the best in Jerusaelm either - but the point is its not bad at all, and could be a lot worse considering it has one of the prime locations in the Old City.

We had a selection of mezze and couple of beers which went down exremely well after so many religious and historical sightseeing. The views from the rooftop are really nice plus the service and food were okaysh.

Not a great deal of choice when it comes to Holocaust day and open restaurants..So a safe, cheap and coveniently located option was the executive lounge of the hotel, where we had plenty of salmon, cheese, humus and salads with a glass of wine for few dollars.

For an intimate, special night out though very pricey Id say, heres a mixture of french, Morrocan and Jewish cuisine. Among the best are the buttery brioches, the eggplant and goat cheese with basil, duck with black currant sauce.

This tiny Lebanese restaurant is adjacent to the Tower of David Museum, which is a short walk from the Jaffa Gate. There are only a few tables, so the restaurant can easily get crowded. The kofta kabob is exceptional, as is the hummus. While the food is great, the bill can be a budget buster. The food is good, but not that good.

Blue collar's (hihihihi) popular restaurant, located inside shuk Mahneh Yehuda domain.
Simple - what you see is what you get, homely, very tasty, some original Yerushalmi dishes.
Small space, very crowded sometimes. 'Eat and go' style. People outside are waiting for a free table... [Hebrew: gomrim - holchim].
