  • Tip Rating:
  • Ah yes go and see the El Asa Mosque. You can enter it when wearing long sleaves, long trousers/dress and when you take your shoes off. Especially men are allowed to enter the mosque.

    Temple Mount: The Al-Aksa mosque.
  • Tip Rating:
  • As you can see in the picture the golden dome if the mosque is the dominant landmark of Jerusalem. Built by the Caliph al-Walid (r. 705-715), of the Umayyad dynasty, El-Aksa is one of the largest and most important mosques in the Muslim world, and the earliest in Palestine. Its construction was probably the architectural expression of the destination of Muhammad's Night Journey and of the place where his ascension to heaven occurred. The mosque was beautiful and vast twice the size of today's structure. The original mosque was destroyed in an earthquake in the middle of the eighth century and restored by the Abassids toward the end of that century. Other than a few pieces of wood bearing carvings of floral images, nothing remains of the decorations of the original mosque. Most of those in today's mosque date from medieval times.

Temple Mount: The Temple Mount Area.
  • Tip Rating:
  • From the Northwest one can see The Dome of the Rock which is situated at the center of this area. The Al-Aksa Mosque is located to the south and to the west is the Wailing Wall. The Al-Omariah school stands in the north west corner of this area.

Temple Mount: When visiting Jerusalem go to...
  • Tip Rating:
  • When visiting Jerusalem go to the Temple Square. On this square you can't miss the wonderful Dome of the Rock (maybe the outside the dome is even more beautiful than inside). Furthermore you can go to the Al Aqsa mosque (not that spectacular) or walk around and have a look at some other small buildings or wash your feet in the El Kas fountain.

    Temple Mount: The Temple Mount
This is a Holy place of two religions: Muslims and Jews. It is one of the most important symbols of Jerusalem and one of the most controversial as well. Jews think that here is where supposedly Abraham almost sacrificed his son Isaac and where the First and Second Temples were built. And Muslims have here their third holiest shrine. The two monuments here are the: Dome of the Rock and the El-Aqsa Mosque I am afraid I did not enter to the Muslim area, so I could not see them.
