Take a Hat

by Goner

A bag on wheels or a backpack. You don't need any "fancy" clothes, Israel is very casual. You can buy anything you might have left at home. Take a panoramic camera. We were told to wear a hat on the tour because the sun is very hot in the Israel.

due taxes on weight, try to take smaller or less heavy Luggage. in the summer, take v short clothes, it's very hot outside, and there are higher % of moistness.in the winter, take long clothes, the rain months are Oct - Mar, and in Dec,Jan or Feb, there's a high chance for snow in jerusalemthe spring and fall are a bit rainy, but more sunny days in the spring. - take cameras! you must!there are many things you would like to remember! - -

Depends doesn't it? My favourite is my trusty backpack (with no frame) which did me, my husband and 18 month son through an 8 week trip to Israel, Greece, Turkey and Holland. But then I like to travel light.Rucksacks are best for those on foot, staying in budget accomodation or on long trips. If you are an armani kind of person, well a rucksack ain't gonna do your suits any favours!! Thick socks and sturdy boots for those on foot, who like walking/ hiking and for anyone planning trips outside of major cities or towns. There are snakes and scorpions in Israel ( see my 'Israel Dangers and Annoyances' tip) and light sandals/flipflops for the beach and hostel showers ( if you have to share them)If visiting desert areas bring a warm sweater as the temperature drops when the sun goes down.Out of season Jerusalem can get cold ( I've seen photos of snow on the Dome of the Rock) and it rains...

Aside from the usual luggage, take a belly pouch. It will be valuable for carrying your camera, sun tan lotion and money. Prepare for hot days and cool nights. Bring deoderant, soap, toothpaste, etc. Although they are available there, don't depend on it. There is a fee for bringing a camcorder into the country. Be ready for some swim time. Think security when dressing for a walk or tour.

No real specs here. As always, packing lighter is better. And your luggage will almost definiteyl be searched. For a country of its size, the climate of Israel is extremely varied. Bring warm clothes if you're going to be in Jerusalem - or the desert, for that matter. It can get quite cool at night, even during the summer. And it did snow while I was in Jerusalem in January. It's not a matter of being able to get what you need - it's a matter of figuring out how to say 'anti-fungal cream' in Hebrew...pharmacies are well sticked in the city, and I found the druggists to be very helpful. You're pretty much OK here - I'd bring batteries and lots of film, as both of these can get expensive. Process your film when you get home. It's expensive. (see above about weather) If you're in the desert, thankfully, there's no need to worry about rain. But bring lots and lots of water. You won't...

whatever you like - I prefer a small bag to be carried into the plain -> you don't have to wait for your baggage at the airport :-)) clothes for very hot weather almost all the year - except december to february can be rainy and a little colder sun cream (is very expensive in Israel) all batteries / films or video tapes available possible to sleep for free on the beach - not everywhere as smoker if you smoke tobacco you probably want to bring some packets with you - the price is more than 10 Euro (about 50 Shekel) for one packet, about tripple the price as in Germany

Bring good walking shoes. The ground can be quite dusty, so if you wear sandals your feet can become very dirty. Also, lots of uneven walking surfaces at the different sights. Do not forget sunscreen. The weather in Isreal is always sunny. Sometimes cooler, sometimes warmer, but almost always clear skies.

In the winter, you need rain gear. It can just pour here, and snow if it gets cold enough. In some areas it's very hard to find the hair or soap products you want for a decent price - so bring some. Film is expensive and so is developing film. You might want to bring the film back with you. If you are a business traveler and have to bring a printer, be aware that outside of Tel Aviv or Jerusalem it's really hard to find a step-town converter (the big ones you need for printers or videos) (from 110 to 220). Also remember that you might lose some of your electrically-run items at the airport, at least for a few days. They even took my son's see-throughGame Boy.

It is a good idea to have some cash with you for emergencies, transportation and small purchases The food and water in Israel should give you no trouble, but, just in case, bring medication to relieve the symptoms of stomach problems. Bring a camera and/or video and try to take pictures of people rather than just buildings. The shots will be more memorable when attached to faces. It is a good idea to have some cash with you for emergencies, transportation and small purchasesBring important phone numbers with you for emergencies and to contact friends and familyEven if you don't normally keep a journal, bring a note pad or diary to record your feelings and experiences. When you come home, and years later, you'll be glad you did.
