You must try bargaining in the Arab Market. In the old city of Jerusalem, the Via Dolorosa is the path pilgrims take and they walk right by the most fabulous shops in the country. There are food shops, clothing, jewelry, furniture, rugs, souvenirs,....just about everything you can imagine. All the Arab vendors will ask you to sit and have a cup of Kaffe. watch out, that stuff is lethal. The coffee is flavored with cardomum and is very strong. You'll be given a thimble full and believe me, that's enough to power a jet plane for about a week. Of course, you can decline the Kaffe, but you must be very careful how you say no or you might insult the shop owner. After the Kaffe, is the time to try your bargaining skills. Ask the price of an item, deduct one half the amount and make an offer. The shop keeper will come down a small amount and tell you how much better his product is than the guy next door (who's his brother, cousin, uncle, father, etc). Pause a moment (not too long, or he'll think he has you) and make a second offer a little higher than the first. He'll smile and tell you how wonderful the piece is and he's losing sooooooooo much money, but "for you, I'll let you have it at that price". then be aware you'll be offered Kaffe again while it's being wrapped. it's wonderful fun!

An artisan of the highest style awaits you at the Holiday Inn in Jerusalem. A lovely little shop inside the hotel provides you with one of a kind necklaces. Made of sterling silver (look for the silver marking on the back, I guarantee it will be there). For 25.00, United States currency, your name will be made of silver, written in the Hebrew language. Not knowing the language, I wore my new necklace to a local bookstore. Immediately, a total stranger walked up to me and spoke my name. I smiled brightly, knowing that I had purchased a personal treasure.
The jewerly in the shop is handmade, expect a 24 hour wait for your handmade silver necklace, however, other unique and beautiful items are available and very reasonably priced. The jewelry artisan is available to answer any questions and the workmanship is worth the price.
25.00 for a sterling silver necklace made of your name in Hebrew. Leave a Comment Theme: JewelryAddress: The Holiday Inn, Jerusalem

by Sharon When Arriving to the Duty Free in Ben Gurion Airport (on your way back home) you can find Many things to buy but unlike i other duty free shops which i've seen you wont find Authentic food to buy there so if you like to take with you this kinda things dont wait till your last minute.. Other then that you can find everything..cigarrets, cosmetics, sports clothes shoes and others, electricity, music etc' etc'. For you smokers i can say that cigarrets are quite cheap !!! much cheaper then in the US or Europe. Paying can be done with the local currency, US dollars or any other major credit cards. Not sure about Euros as i never asked about it. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Ben Gurion Airport

Ben Yehuda is a pedestrian street filled with wonderful shops and restaurants. A street performer was hamming it up when we drifted in. A lovely flower stand offered fragrant blooms, a bakery presented its freshly baked breads and rolls, while visitors people-watched and strolled the streets (pic #3). Menorahs and candelabrums of all styles appeared in shop windows, while jewelry sparkled on tidy shelves (pic #2). We savored a mid-day snack at Aldo, where scrumptious flavors of ice cream vied for our attention (pic #4). A friendly young woman formerly from the states served up our order. A well-stocked t-shirt store completed my mission on finding a last gift to take home for someone. I thoroughly enjoyed Ben Yehuda! Theme: GiftsAddress: Jerusalem, Israel

As we climbed a narrow walkway, we passed through the Arab market on our way to the Jewish Quarter. Vibrant colored clothing fluttered on doorways, intricate weavings, trinkets and carved wood pieces were neatly laid out for inspection outside the shops. We were invited to peruse the goods inside, as shopkeepers beckoned passersby to take some the time to visit. Bargaining was expected. Because the buildings seemed very close to each other and the walkway narrow, this area seemed somewhat darkened. Theme: Gifts

The Cardo is a restored section of Jerusalem featuring high-quality shops, an eatery or two and a money changer. I loved this section of Jerusalem! The Jewish Quarter is part of this area and was a pleasant place in which to wander. We discovered a shop by the name of CHAYO. Inside were luxurious, embroidered prayer shawls and exquisitely wrought jewelry, as well as, unique ceramic pieces. Most of our allotted time was spent looking at all the treasures within and I would highly recommend a visit. The service was excellent! I also found the fresh fruit and bread stands we encountered appealing (pic #2). Theme: Gifts

Who said men do not like shopping? by Carmela71 No V.A.T. on goods & services in Eilat. isnt it great?
Most of the tourist do not ahve to pay VAT in Israel, but here even on normal shopping, they discount you the vat from the final price, so you alwys pay less that what you think lol. Actually I bught some shoes like the ones Stace is trying in eilat (mine were not very good ones). He boughted in Arad at Martin¨s Friend shoe shop that had been recently to Madrid (Spain). I think at the end, he got a better deal, as the owner of the hsop was Martins freind, he offered him a 25%, wow!! I should have wait lol Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Lots of "junk" at the Jaffa flea market by Paul2001 Although most people will find the souqs in Jerursalem much more interesting on a cultural scale, the flea market located by the Clock. The flea market is quite unlike any such market that I have seen back home in Canada. At the Jaffa flea market you can buy just about anything imaginable from musical instruments, brass beds, cooking utensils to used cars. Of course there is also a large choice of antique furniture. The flea market is a rather ramshackle affair that seems to define the phrase "organized chaos". Henced I really liked. However the flea market will not appeal to everyone. Some will find it filthy and full of quite simply said, junk.
Imagine it and you will find it here. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Buy to old Clock Tower east of Jaffa's old town and south of Tel Aviv
