Shai Ashiel Cooking Adventure: Bring the Chef home with you

    Chef at home, Arad, Israel

Well you have heard of take away, or ordering from your home...well Shai Ashiel takes it one step further...he brings the chef himself INTO YOUR HOME....yes, the chef brings all the instruments, tools, table, pots, pans, and food needed to cook a full three course meal (you can see he even brought WATER) for however many guests you determine. We decided on 15 people who were interested in not only enjoying a personally cooked meal by a chef, but also to actually LEARN from the chef how to prepare everything, from the entree to the dessert..Oh, WE made the coffee and served the wine, but everything else came with the chef.

Favorite Dish: You can takeyour pick, everything we had was excellent, but I enjoyed the oven braised, mustard roast best.

Kakao: Kakao, the "new girl in town"

    by Martin_S. Written Feb 4, 2013

Kakao Restaurant calling card, Arad, Israel

Kakao is in the new shopping center at the entrance to Arad, just off Highway 31 from Beer-Sheva where it meets the stoplight.
Kakao is the new girl in town and an excellent addtion it is for several reasons.
The hours are from 8am to midnight or the last customer and they are also open on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings (these are times when most places in Israel are closed.
The service for a new place was exceptional.
Last but by no way least, was the food and drink, all served up very presentably and tasty.
Prices were not cheap, about average for Tel-Aviv and the nice spots, not high, although they are considered higher than the average for our area. But hey, if it is good I am willing to pay a few extra.

Favorite Dish: We enjoyed with friends, pizza, hot chocolate cake with ice cream, and various types of coffee and teas.
All were good, so I would recommend giving Kakao here in Arad a visit.

Muza: Muza good beer and food

    by Martin_S. Written Jun 30, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Muza restaurant, Arad, Israel

The decorating "theme" seems to be neo-football, the walls and ceiling are covered with penants and scarves from football (soccer) teams from around the world.
They have an inside and outside seating area and even though you are allowed to smoke there, it is well enough ventilated that it does not affect us non smokers.

Favorite Dish: They have a variety of dishes from sandwiches to steaks, but their main theme is the pub, and they have beer from many countries, I saw from Germany, Holland and Japan for instance.
The food is excellent and in good enough quantity that you come away satisfied. The people are friendly and will explain any of the dishes or beers that are unfamiliar to you.

When our "adopted" ex-WUJies Al and Sheryl came back to visit (bringing Al's parents Steve and Tanya) to show us our granddaughter Aliyza we of course went to Muza to eat and have a brew or two.
We take ALL our friends there, so when Daria arrived from Poland, she ended up having a beer with us at Muza and we do make sure to introduce everyone to the owner Alon.
The decorating "theme" seems to be neo-football, the walls and ceiling are covered with penants and scarves from football (soccer) teams from around the world as you can see in the third photo. If you can bring a scarf that Alon does NOT HAVE you may be able to get a free night of beers on the house.....

Yehelim: Yehelim Restaurant and Boutiqe Hotel

    by Martin_S. Written Aug 6, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Yehelim Restaurant/Hotel, Arad, Israel

Dalia, the owner/manager of the hotel/restaurant has brought together a mixed menu of dishes that should satisfy most appetities (no meat though). The breakfast is an enjoyable repast together with the "additions" that you have. Will not try to list all the options available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, not to mention dessert, but will say that everything we have tried was well prepared and presented nicely.

Often on weekends (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) Dalia will bring in entertainment which can range from wine and cheese tasting to ethnic music. It is a good idea to reserve a place since these events may be packed.

Favorite Dish: Only one single problem...the people who serve you here and cook for you are NOT professionals (well not YET at any rate), so the service lacks some of the polish of an older established place. The people are friendly, helpful and want to do well, but coordination that makes a meal go "smoothly" is still to be found. You may find that while one person gets the main course and another gets the entree....
But I would still recommend Yehelim as a very good choice, for the people, the food and the view (the service can be forgiven).

  • Kakao: Above average

by Nexttime Written May 14, 2013

We went twice to Kakao in Arad (Israel). We had diner and lunch at the restaurant. The food is good, the personnel is friendly, prices are reasonable and the restaurant is clean. Only the music was to loud to our opinion. When we go back to Israel we will visit this place again for sure.

    Humous Sayid: Great Humous Place

    by ellen1 Written Apr 17, 2009

Humous place with limited menu as is common in humous speciality restaurants. Menu includes 3 types of humous served with some vegetables and olive oil, felafel, very fresh pitas, soft drinks.

Humous made fresh every day on premises. Pleasant and clean.

Great place to stop for a quick, cheap, bite to eat on the way to the Dead Sea.
