    No VAT!

by TravellerMel Written Dec 15, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

What to buy: Eilat has the special distinction of having no Value Added Tax (VAT) added to purchases. People from all over Israel and other parts of Europe come here to shop. No VAT means no waiting at the airport for your refund, and an overall ~15% cost savings - that can be substantial if you are purchasing big ticket items!

    Eilat Stone

by TravellerMel Written Dec 6, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

What to buy: Eilat stone has only been found in King Solomon's copper mines, in the Red Sea near Eilat, Israel. It is an exclusive stone from Israel, and is becoming very scarce, due to the halting of mining this stone in the 1970's. There are no other stones like the Eilat stone anywhere in the world.

Eilat stone is comprised of Azurite, Amalachite, Turquoise and Chrysocolla.

What to pay: I paid US$103 for the earrings and US$137 for the necklace. Both are in 925 sterling silver settings.

There are few supermarkets around the hotels area where you can get your supply, snacks, food and drinks in rather cheap compare to hotels and restaurant. Especially good to get you water supply here in quantity to have enough with you when going to the beach or in the sun.

    all around Eilat: Tax Free

by ophiro Written Jul 23, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Eilat is a Tax Free city so theoretically things should be cheaper than other cities in Israel.

In actual fact , not all the places sell cheaper , only big chains stores with branches in Eilat.

Still you will find cheap things here.
