Well I found an Israeli who rented a room
empty of furniture to me with just a matress on
the floor. I even considered on renting several other rooms
to travels in need of a cheap place to crash.
Alas, backpackers either had money to spend on a hotel
or they chose to just sleep outside in one of the parks or
on the beach. That was dangereous as there had been
some muggings and even a few murders in the past 2 years of
tourists choosing to sleep rough.
My first job I got was working at the Shulamit Hotel as a dish
washer. I think the salary was about ten or 15 English pounds for
an eight or ten hour day with some meals thrown in.Can't remember
exactly as it was 30 years ago now. Most of the European and Western
crowd worked in the port doing really heavy manual labour in the
port or on construction sites, some lucky ones got jobs for longer
periods on oil rigs on the other side of Israel off Ashkelon or
in the Sinia. Most of my co-workers were palestinian and listened to
Arabic music in our breaks. I found it strange being surrounded by
so many Palestinians but not at all threatened. I guess most
Israelis in this time down in the Sinia were hippies and for peace,
but not so much for work. Most Israelis who had just dropped out of
mainstrean society and wore beduin clothes and lived in primitive
shacks and some lived in stone houses had been either working
as kibbutnik for years or from the big cities like Tel-Aviv and its
suburbs, Ramat Gan, Herzalia, and a bunch of other places.
WILL CONTINUE SOON ABOUT THE PEACE CAFE:::

Kids amusement park - It's in a shaded place.
My daughter has been there 3 times (once a year 3 years in a row).
She's 11 now.
It is fun for the kids. This year she went with a 13 year old friend and I went shopping .
We both had fun.
This place is a must for kids at least once ...
There is a big boat slide, a history path, a magnet room, a dark room, ...
Have fun ..

Have lunch in Sheik Yousoufs tent. Brightly colored Bedouin tent, covered in many vibrant fabrics. Eat Hummus and Pita, or Shish Kabab. The food is great, and the experience is great. The men are dressed as sheiks, and the owner is an amazing fortune teller. He did a wonderful job with mine (no bad news!) and then dressed me like a bedouin woman. We smoked hookah with him. It was really a great afternoon. He does excursions into the desert on camel as well.

Eilat has a beautiful small Marina. There are many yachts and small ships that take people for cruize in the Red sea and there are many glass boats that will take you to see the corals of the region....
From the marina you can also take a ship to the Underwater observatory, you can buy tickets at the stands inside the Marina.

Only one of Umm Rashrash 's mud-brick buildings - an old Ottoman police station remains standing, in a tiny park. You can see it close to the monument to the Negev Brigade soldiers.

If I remember correctly, this memorial is dedicated to the claiming of Eilat by the Israeli fighters in the War of Independence.
It shows a group of soldiers raising the Israeli flag.
