    Underwater Observatory, Eilat, Israel

Wanted to show some photos of this wonderful spot in Eilat, but my photos did not come out in a presentable form. The photo here I found on the internet at
    http://www.israeltripplanner.com/eilat/eilat-attractions/underwater-observatory-marine-park
But I will direct you to their website -
    http://www.coralworld.com/eilat/eng/.
This is one of the best places to observe sealife, especially in the underwater observatory, a tower that you walk out to on a promenade and then descent into the watery depths while keeping dry. Check on feeding times when you can see a scuba diver interacting with the fish. You can also enjoy the aquarium, Red Sea Reef, shark pool and sea turtle and even enjoy "petting" a stingray or turtle. If you don't enjoy this yourself, then if you have kids, make sure you stop here.

    Turtles

These turtles are in the turtle and stingray pool in the Underwater Observatory Marine Park. There is a central sandy island where you can see where the turles have laid their eggs, and if you come at the right time, you will see the turtles being born.

    Oceanarium

The Oceanarium is in effect a motion theater, a simulative movie theater that imparts a real-life sense of "being there". And here you will take a 17 minute journey to, amongst other places, the ocean bed.....This is real family entertainment and when I was there I saw lots of young children enjoying themselves. The photo is not too clear but it does give an idea of what it is like inside the
    'Oceanarium'.

    Coral Reef

The heart of the reserve is a coral reef some 1,200 meters long parallel to the beach. It is one of the most ‘densely populated’ coral reefs in the world and the only one in Israel.

A coral reef is a complex and delicate ecosystem, all of whose components are interdependent and connected in terms of metabolism and energy with their environment. Damage to even one individual in the system can cause a chain reaction that can adversely affect many organisms on the reef and marine or beach pollution can cause an ecological disaster. Great care is very important to preventing such damage.

    Yellow Submarine

In the past this Yellow Submarine was here but in my last visit it was not available anymore. Anyway, that Yellow Submarine that use to be here was designed in Finland and build in Belgium.
It could take you underwater for a tour in the deep blue water of the red sea.

Visit the Underwater Observatory where you can just walk under water.
You can spend here the whole day of excitement for the whole family, see the aquariums, pools, sharks, turtles and other attractions. Great place for kids of course.

The underwater observatory marine park is a beautiful place , where you can see the nature of the coral world in Eilat , see the fish , sharks and more.
There are many beautiful things to see.

The oceanarium is a marine simulator .

Entrance to the place will cost 80 nis for the park and 15 nis more to the oceanarium.
To my opinion the oceanarium is not a must see so don't waste your time.

If you have a car , there is a big parking lot here , but you can also come with a taxi and it will cost 20-25 nis or with bus no. 15.

Even if you don't dive, you can still enjoy the rich underwater life of the Red Sea by going to the observatory. Here you can see both the marine life right outside in the red sea and some more marine life in aquariums.

See more pictures at the travelogue.

Coral and Fish from Underwater - the Red Sea

    Underwater boat trip

Eilat municipal bus no.15. Short taxi ride from center.

We took a trip on this submarine looking boat - (the submarine that took people far beneath the ocean is no longer in Eilat, it has been sold to another country - just thought I would mention this) - it only goes close to the shore and although it was fun I can't say we saw too much. We saw some coral, but I would have liked to have seen many more large colourful fish. One sits in the boat underwater where there are windows all around to look out to the coral and fish.

    Underwater Observatory, Eilat

Entrance to the Park: NIS 88 - Senior
There is another price for children

Here there are many things to see - Aquarium Museum, Shark Tank, Turtle and Stingray Pool, Underwater Observatory, Reef Tanks and more.

In the photo you can see the Underwater Observatory in the background and in the foreground you can see the markings made in the sand box by turtles who have buried eggs here. You can climb an extra 90 steps and go to the top of the Underwater Observatory and see the views from there. I did and was glad I did. I took lots of photos in Eilat and will be putting them in a travelogue.

View to the Underwater park from the tower

This observatory is one of Eilats biggest attractions and one of the most beautiful observatories in the region.
There are many activities available. In addition to all the regular attractions of the huge Aquariums which contains many colorful animals (there are huge Sharks too...) and other creature and sea plants.
There is the "Corals Pearl" ship wich leaving the Marina (the north part of Eilat) and goes until the Underwater observatory. In the way you can see the beutiful Corals when you will go down to the butom of the ship which made of glass.
There is the "Yellow Submarine" which goes 60 meters under the sea level and sails near the beutifil colorful corals.
The Submarine and the ship depart in fixed hours, you may call them beforre toreserve a ticket.
If you go to the Underwater park with kids then the kids can feed the fishes between 11:30 to 13:40...
There is a big Tower in the site. At the ground floor there is a restaurant, if you go down you will be under the sea level, you will see the water animals and the corals and you will feen like in a huge aquarium. If you will go up from the ground floor to the Top you will have an amazing view to the all region but take into consideration that there are close to 100, a bit exhausting.
The new big attraction of the park is the Oceanarium. a big hall (like cinema) where you see a film about the life in the sea. You can really feel like you are a part of the film, you come down from space with a spaceship and suddenly you can feel the chairs tremble hard when you hit the water... very cool and exiting!!!
There are also estaurants, kiosks and souvenir shops in the park.
It opens from 8:30 to 16:30 and cost about 79 NIS for adult and 69 NIS for a child including a visit at the Oceanarium.

    The submarine has gone .....

by kevarms Written Mar 26, 2004

... and I was very disappointed, but the park is still worth a visit for the underwater observatory.
This is a genuine observatory where the fish are actually in the sea, and not in tanks. If you haven't been snorkelling or scuba diving, or even if you have - you will be simply agog looking at all the thousands of fish. Keep an eye out for the amazing lionfish.
