Some ATM's were not accepting my cards, maybe they are only for local cards, then some others might over charge to use it, especially those inside shops. And some ATM were just out of order or money. Anyway, I changed money at the airport on arrival and later used some other ATM's that was working and we never had really any problems.
The city during the summer
Eilat in the summer months can be very crowded , prices are high , a lot of tourists and local Israelis .
The weather can be a big problem too - very hot , strong sun.
Unique Suggestions: Enjoy the water , the amazing mountain view.
Fun Alternatives: If you can come to Eilat not between june-august it will less crowded , hotels will be cheaper and you will enjoy the city more.
Eilat is not a cheap place, it's expensive as Europe, so you should know when planning visiting here.
Unique Suggestions: Way to save money is to eat for example in the fast food stands instead of restaurants. Those places serve Falafel, Shawarma, Salads etc, which are very good and relatively cheap.
Want to save even more, buy food in the supermarket, great selections on milk products, yoghurts, soft cheeses and cold drinks.
Maybe I am a bit unfair to list this place as a trap, but I really think that Kings City does not belong to this place. Maybe in some places that there is not much to do, but I feel that is someone with small children make all his way to Eilat the proper way to spend you time and money is by the sea, swimming with dolphins, watching the fish in the aquarium, diving and all sort of sea or desert activity.
Fun Alternatives: See my tips.
Shopping in Eilat
Eilat is known as a tax free city.... but dont get to excited.... most of the local businesses dont reduce the prices because they know that most of the visitors wouldnt think twice when they want to buy something during the vacation.
The only olaces whre its worth to do shopping in Eilat its in the nationwide networks (especially fashion shops) where the prices are almost about 20% less then in other places like Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.
The conclusion is that its a good thing that Eilat is a tax free area but waste too much money because maybe you wont be the winners at that case...
There are a lot of undercover cops there. You can spot them by their obnoxious behavior and habits of dragging someone around who is obviously sick, getting them drunk, and them humiliating them in front of tourists. Hey, this could be slanderous or treasonous, but it is true.
