    Bus from Jerusalem

the main draw of Ein Kerem are the Christian Pilgrims who go along the biblical sites around this small mountain town, and going to and from Ein Kerem to you hotels in Jerusalem Proper is easy as there is no separation barrier here unlike when going to Bethlehem in the west bank as Ein Kerem is part of the Suburbs of Jerusalem. the drive from West Jerusalem to Ein Kerem is about 15 minutes by tour bus along the winding mountain roads and after the entrance to the Yad Vashem Memorial.

    How to get here ?

by ophiro Written Jan 4, 2008

If you are coming from the center of Israel (Tel Aviv for example) - you shoud drive on Route 1 to Jerusalem and get down from the road on Harel Junction).
I think that the road called 3965 and you will see the signs to Hadasa (which is located in En Kerem).

    Walking

by ophiro Written Jan 4, 2008

The best way to see the village is by walking.
Most of the places are very close to each other and although you can drive from one place to another there is a problem driving in the narrow streets (and to find a place to park of course).

    how to move around

by mindcrime Written Aug 22, 2014

It’s a small town so you can walk around the main attractions. The problem is that it’s on a hill so you may need to go up lots of steps (eg for the church of the Visitation). There were sings about the sites were everywhere so it’s really difficult to get lost, in some parts we noticed a detailed map (pic 4) although no one really needs one.

Car wont help you much here, in fact you’ll spend lot of time to find a parking space on busy days. We left ours in the periphery road and just walked inside the village.

We noticed some taxi around so this is also an (expensive) option

    how to go there

by mindcrime Written Aug 22, 2014

Ein Kerem is at the outskirts of Jerusalem, about 7km SW of the central bus station of Jerusalem or 3,5km from Yad Vashem

    By car
From Tel Aviv turn right at Harel junction and take route 3965 for a few km and then route 386.
We drove there from Tel Aviv as we toured around the west part of Jerusalem general area. We started from Emmaus/Nicopolis, Latrun monastery, Avshalom cave, Nes Harim viewpoint and ended up in Ein Karem. We parked at the periphery road near the Islamic cemetery.

    By bus
Take bus 17 from Jaffo street in Jerusalem.
Most other people come with tour buses that bring pilgrims to the churches of Ein Karem.
