Herzliya Things to Do

  • the town

Most tourists prefer Herzliya Pituah district (2,5km NW of the railway station) because it has the beach, expensive houses, the marina and many restaurants. After two weeks of touring around famous Israeli towns we preferred to walk around the main town of Herzliya (east of the railway station) and see a normal residential area, after all we just...

  • the beach

Although only 8km west of Raanana the bus took about 45 minutes to reach Herzliya beach as it had to stop in about 30000 different bus stops :) Unfortunately it was impossible to swim that day, when we got off the bus it started to rain so lying on the beach with the dark sky above us didn’t seem very appealing, we took some pictures and returned...

  • Saying goodbye to a friend

(sorry I have had to remove these pictures at the request of our friend, she is being forced by her government to remove any signs of her visiting Israel)Our friend arrived here in Israel in the summer of 2004 and the first weekend here she came to visit us in Arad. Now in the summer of 2005 we met with her in Herziliya to sadly say goodbye, she...

  • The Seasonal Swamp

In the low-lying valley, east of the kurkar (calcareous sandstone) ridge which blocks the flow of rainwater towards the sea, there was a swamp which caused grave problems for the settlers of Herzeliya in the 1920s. Even the Romans in ancient times confronted the same problem, and dug a tunnel in the kurkar ridge to drain the swamp.Nowadays the...

  • Apollonia NP --- Admire the colors

When you visit the National Park you most probably have noticed chimneys and high buildings. But here in the park you can enjoy the nature inside and outside the parks boundaries. The high coast gives excellent views into the water and along the coast. I really enjoyed the colors, especially the water was very blue. So take your time here to admire...

  • Apollonia NP --- Fortress Model

Don't forget to have a look at the fortress model which shows you how the fortress looked like in its short time of existance.

  • Apollonia NP --- Crusaders Fortress

Center piece of the national park is for sure the Crusader Fortress. Here quite some structures are left, but the bridge that you will use is not the one that was used in the past. Approaching the visitor bridge you can see parts of the old bridge. In the fortress you can still find ballista stones and traces of the fire which the mameluke set here...

  • Apollonia NP --- Ottoman Lime Kiln

During the ottoman periode this lime kiln was used to burn lime limestone for the construction of buildings. The fire was burning in the structure that you can see today, while the lime stone was placed ontop of the roof. After four to six days the stones were ready.

  • Apollonia NP --- Water Reservoirs

When walking on the Sea Path you will pass several reservoirs that were used to collect rain water. Access to water was important especially if you keep in mind the various sieges that were held here. Have a look at the round shaped water pool and the cisterns.

Herzliya Restaurants

  • Gorilla

We visited Herzliya for the beach but upon our arrival there were light showers so we decided to get back into town have a coffee there. We stooped at GORILLA a typical café that is located on Sokolow, one of the main streets in the center. They have plenty of tables outside and seemed a good spot for people watching, although there was plenty of...

  • Nice Restaurant, Nice Beach Views

Yam 7 is located near the Acadia Hotel in Herzliya-Pituach, strategically situated overlooking the beach below. The view includes the marina in the south, the Acadia-Central and Acadia-North beaches and the beach-level promenade. This is a big and spacious restaurant, and the amount of "personal space" that each table gets here is remarkable. The...

  • Beach Restaurant / Cafe-Bar

"Etzel Avi" means "Chez Avi" in Hebrew. This is a simple beach restaurant which is very strategically located, on the lower promenade of the Herzliya Pituach beach. You come here for the location, not for the food. The menu includes all the usual items you find in such restaurants in Israel. We had humus, falafel and a greek salad, and everything...

  • Nice place to sit in the marina

In Israel even an evening in November is a good time to sit outdoors in the Hertzeliya marina, eat and have a drink, and the breeze is pleasant and not too cold.We spent a very nice evening in the Kakao Espresso Bar; this is one of several branches of this trendy network of cafes in Israel. If you want to eat they have the typical menu in Israeli...

  • Good dining in the marina

The Herzilya marina is not exactly my favorite place: a concrete monster where golden sand used to be. However. once it was built, it does provide opportunities for good dining. We went to Medzzo for dinner to celebrate Ofrah's birthday. There were six of us, and the uniform opinion was very good. There is a large selection in the menu; I enjoyed my...

  • South African food

Black steer is a good south african restaurant that serves all kind of meat - Hamburgers , Steaks , Chicken and more. The food here is very good and you can even enjoy meetings or conferences in the VIP room they've got here.We had here a birthday party and enjoyed. I ate here a great fillet Steak , one of the best steaks i ate here in Isreal.

Herzliya Nightlife

  • Foreign Movies in the Hotel by the Beach

The Lev cinema network in Israel specializes in quality films from all over the world, from France, Germany and Italy to Iran, Korea and Japan. "Lev-Daniel" is unique in its setting and its ambience: It is located in the Daniel Hotel in Herzliyah-Pituach, a medium-size hall with plush red seats and a cosy atmosphere. When you exit the movie theater...

  • Lounge Bar on the Herzliya Beach

"Nine Beach" is a popular and trendy lounge - bar on the Zvulun Beach in Herzliya Pituach.Indoors, the decor is a mixture of Moroccan and modern design. There is also outdoor seating on the sand, with soft red romantic lighting. On some evenings there is live music, anything from rock and reggae to world music and more. There is a food menu,...

  • The Marina

The marina can be very romantic during the evening and night with the boats around , good restaurants and music. You can enjoy sitting in a good restaurant and enjoy the water .

Herzliya Transportation

  • how to go there

Herzliya is 12km North of Tel Aviv, 77 NW of Jerusalem, 82km S of Haifa, 6km W of Raanana.By trainYou can easily reach Herzliya Railway Station from Ben Gurion airport (one way ticket 20NIS) and Tel Aviv as it is along the main train line From Tel Aviv to the north. We arrived there when we returned from the north (Haifa) and realized that is in...

  • how to move around

Moving around Herlziya is a bit tricky although it’s mid size town with about 40,000 inhabitants. The problem is that the main railway line splits Herlziya in two parts, The beach is 2,5km to the west, the upscale Herzliya Pituach 3km NW and the town of Herzliya is 2,5km east of the train station! So if you arrive by train you need a taxi or wait...

  • Use Car

The best way to my opinion to get here is by car.The location of the city is on the main route from Haifa-Tel Aviv so you can stop here for a while and continue your way.To go to the Marina area you should get down on the boat junction (Ha'sira) and this is Herzliya Pituach.

Herzliya Shopping

  • Outlet

The outlet is located in the main business district of Herzliya Pituach. Its a pretty nice uncovered shopping center, consists about 50 shops which are mostly clothing brands. The good thing about the outlet is that the nshops are considered as surpluses branches and that means that all year long there are sales and discoutns and its really a great...

    The Herzeliya Walk

by iblatt Updated Jun 29, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Once a year, on a Saturday morning around November, ther Herzeliya Walk takes place. Many hundreds of Herzeliyans (and a few others) take the walk, young and old, families, couples and singles, with all kinds of activities scattered along the route: live music, children's games and fun, sports activities etc.
The city museum of Beit Rishonim is open to the public with free guided tours.
You can choose between an 8 km route and a 5 km one.
There is a carnaval atmosphere at the end of the route. Go for it!

Meet Iris Levi, she does Swedish Massage, Holisitic Reflexogy. We had the pleasure to meet her by surprise when the coffee bar/pub we were enjoying on the beach at Herziliya hired Iris to circulate among the clients and give each a 5 minute Swedish Massage. It was very nice and a surprising change. If you are in the Tel-Aviv/Herziliya area and enjoy massage you should consider contacting her.

Herzliya Sports & Outdoors

  • Bike and Jog in the Herzliya Park

The Herzliya Park offers a good opportunity to bike, jog or walk. There are separate lanes and paths for joggers and bikers, so that they don't run into families with children, strollers, pets etc.The environment is varied, part of the paths are in nature, besides the seasonal pond which (in winter) is rich with birds and amphibians, and part of...

  • Hiking along the Beach

You can walk the entire length of Herzliya's coastline: It's 5.9 km one way.Starting in the Tzuk (cliff) Beach in the south, the first 2.4 km segment will bring you to the Acadia Beach. On the way you will pass the built-up marina, where you can add an extra 2.16 km to your route by walking along the pier to the end and back. The route continues...

  • JetSki

One of the popular sports in Israel is the Jetskis, and no wonder, its really fun.. but okay i admit, its less fin when you are Not the droiver but the one who sits behined... Herzliya Favorites

  • "City" Falcon

While visiting our friend Rob in Herziliya, we were surprised to see both a Falcon (which is a native of Israel) and a PARROT sitting on a television antenna just across the courtyard on a house close by.In the second picture you can see the Parrot ATTACKING the Falcon. We could not find a nest or something that would cause the parrot to attack,...

  • Herzilya Sunset

As always it is worth waiting for a good sunset. It seems that the best are in the changing season times, in April or November. Although a good storm in January may bring out some fantastic views also.

  • Herzilya seaside

In Herzilya you can find some great beaches for swimming, sailing or even cliffs to paraglide off of. You can see the seabreaks they have constructed to give some shelter from the waves coming in off the greater Mediterranian sea and also some shelters to keep you out of the sun in the hotter hours of the day.
