It is a good idea to bring a small rucksack, or easy to carry bag, to take to the beach or walks around the area. Carrying a massive rucksack under a hot sun? Not my idea of fun. ( I know I tried it !)
From March-April to about October Tel Aviv is hot hot hot. It can get cold along the seafront in the early hours of the morning though. The winter I spent there was quite wet, windy and cold. My usual tip for any travel is bring light clothes that you can layer, a far more effective way to deal with hot and cold extremes. FOOTWear; flip-flops or sandals for the beach, but bring what is most comfortable for you to walk in. (Boots or trainers I mean) especially if you are travelling on a budget. Some of Tel Aviv's streets are unbelievably long. Your hostel may be at one end of Allenby St. and the restaurant you want to visit at the other end of neighbouring street Ben Yehuda. Doesn't sound far does it? It's about an hours walk and that's if you're not looking at the shops.
You can buy most things in Tel Aviv, although it can be expensive. Sunscreen may be a good idea to bring. Pharmacists are well informed and can sell you most stuff over the counter, including anti-biotics if you really need them, and the contraceptive pill.
All such equipment is available here, I seem to remember it was a bit more expensive than at home.
If you are on a budget, it is possible to sleep outside in the Parks or on the Beach. Although you may get woken up by drunken Russians in the park on the way to Jaffa. A tractor smooths the sand on the Beach every morning about 6 am, so make sure you are not sleeping in its path. I also found that some of the staff from Planet Hollywood took great delight in chasing us off some mornings. As the early hours get cold and misty a sleeping bag is a good idea. A camping stove isn't a neccessity as most hostels have a small kitchen or microwaves available
Although hostels will provide you with bedding, some are not very clean. If you are likely to be using the cheaper hostels and can carry the extra weight, this is another reason why a sleeping bag would be good. Leave a Comment

Light clothes! It is hot here! Maybe a sweater for in the evening, but then it will still be hot (in summer, anyway). Bring walking shoes and especially a pair of slippers!
Loads of suncream, anti diarhoeapills and anti mosquitocream/spray! Leave a Comment

by Sharon Basically what ever you need you can buy in Tel Aviv. But in Summer time, dont bother to take any long clothes as its very very hot here. Winters here are cold but not as in Europe thats for sure (and thx god for that).
You're in big City... you've giot everything here. But if you need some special medicins then better take care of that before your arrival ir check with your doctore about useing an abroad's prescription in other countries. Also check in the Israeli health ministry web site.
Basically i guess you can buy everything here though if you use very specail equipment then better have spare with you. Leave a Comment

a real no no especially in the summer months is any synthetic materials, stick to cotton and such believe me you will bless me for this tip, also loose fitting not tight jeans. sandals of course but sneakers and cotton socks are a must, there is a lot of loose sand about. never go to the beach without plastic beach shoes the type you can stick under the tap while on your feet, the heat of the sand on bare feet will make you dance samba. for the evening and going out you will need what the locals call 'sport elegant' which i think explains itself.i have lived in israel tel aviv area for 30 years and have never owed a coat in that time, in other areas eg. jerusalem, you would need a lightish coat in the winter and if you are planning to be in jerusalem (up in the hills you will need alight weight cardigan or such the evenings can be chilly, even in summer.
toiletries are teriffically expensive in israel so take everything from home. see that you have insect repellent in huge amounts, and even a spray for the room if you wamt a decent nights sleep.just in case the prevention didnt work, take some cream to stop the itch. take huge amounts of sun block and something for sunburn and of cause the usual dyhriah (iam sure its not spelt like that) and pain killers etc.hope all that doesnt put you off enjoy your trip.
insect repellent, insect repellent and more insect repellent. long sleeved shirt and long trousers to sleep in. plastic beach shoes, for the beach (to combat the heat of the sand.)if you are in wooded areas then heavy shoes to above the ankle are necessary as ther are snakes in some area. hope i didnt put you off enjoy your trip.
you wont believe this one but if your british and cant survive without a 'cup of tea', you will have to take your own tea bags. israeli tea, is undrinkable to the english. Leave a Comment

Take one extra hour for security checks at the airport into account. Be aware that they may open and damage your electronic equipment by accident. So please check it immediately! When you are also planning to visit the Arabic countries around you may consider not to get an Israeli immigration stamp into your passport. You can ask for a separate immigration sheet. Some people say warm clothes are not needed - but if you for example plan to travel by bus or spend time inside a building bring a sweater or something like that - a lot of people here go crazy with the air condition and you might catch a cold... Leave a Comment
