Manta Ray: The Mediterranean at your feet

Located right on the beach. Open to the elements during the summer (a welcome sea breeze straight off the Med), this tastefully decorated restaurant is popular with locals and tourists alike. Discrete lighting, oceans of space (they do not cram the tables in to the large floor space) and if you get a table either on the terrace or next to the window, the sea appears to break under your feet.

Favorite Dish: Fish! But also prepare yourself for the salads at the beginning of the meal.

Wonderful variation on the traditional regional starters. Rough-cut humus, red peppers with Bulgarian (ie salty) cheese, fish-cakes, carpaccio of grouper, and many more served with Yemenite bread and rock salt. Just point at the ones you want as the waiter brings a giant tray over to your table (but don't overdo them!)

Does great breakfasts too - Israeli, English or French - although the real purpose to go to Manta Ray is for lunch or dinner and their superb fish and seafood.

Food in this restaurant is graeat but...what is excellent is the location: Alma beach! Eating outside, it's like being on the beach, with a view of Tel Aviv and Jaffa, in front of the sea.
The menu has a good selection of fish and seafood, and as a specials they have "mezze", small plats of different kind of appeziers!

Prices are not the cheapest you can have...but it's really worth doing!

Favorite Dish: Raw cooked tuna fish...it's simply great!

  • Manta Ray: Never again!

by AdamStern Updated Jun 15, 2011 1 reviews

We came there on Thursday evening to celebrate birthday, just my partner and me. We were in a good mood, expecting to have a nice supper. None at the entrance even looked at us - can't say someone from staff members was standing there at all (this is an important fact - remember it!). The place was half full. We've chosen a table for two on the open terrace and after 10 minutes managed to catch a waiter and asked him to bring us the menu. Nothing happened during the next 20 minutes, and we saw the same waiter serving other tables. SUDDENLY some girl came to us and, without introducing herself, asked in a very rude and unpleasant manner if we have reserved the table. We told "no we haven't" - because we didn't know we have to reserve a table (which is quite normal cause the place doesn't look as a fancy restaurant - just a beach caffee). Then she told we had to stand at the entrance and to wait until the hostess will let us come in, and you just SNICKED in (!!!). We answered: "First of all, we didn't SNICK in, we just came in and none asked us anything or even looked at us. And we sit here already 30 minutes and didn't even get the menu". She told: "The tables here are ordered". We asked: "So you mean you want us to come and leave?" She said: "Yes, please". We were so much shocked by such attitude of the place and so much pissed off so we didn't even want to make a scandal or try to stand on our own, we just kicked ourselves out of there.

Resume: First they let you come in because they don't know how to organize correctly their hostess work, then they make you waiting for 30 minutes, and when they find out you "SNICKED" in (such a nasty and rude expression, making you feel like 14 y.o. boy that did smth wrong) they just come and say you need to go. Seems they have too many clients and not really interested in the new ones - well, Manta Ray: you lost us forever!

Things like that never happened to us even in much better restaurants, and we never got offended by the staff in any place where we came to spend the money! Manta Ray is snobbish as if it had 3 Michelin stars but actually it's another seafood eatery popular among tourists for its good location - not more.

Manta Ray is a nice restaurant located on the beach very close to Jaffa.
Although it is not looks like a great restaurant from outside , it is very comfortable and nice inside with a very good service , tasty food (and not too expensive) and of course the sea view that makes the food taste better.

You will find here nice breakfast , sea food , good cocktails and more.

Favorite Dish: The potatoe and onion Frittata (a type of Italian omelette) was very good , the breakfast is tasty and served with 2 eggs as you wish , bread , spread , orange juice and coffee/tea.

The quintessential beach restaurant, Manta is an open-air pavilion where you could have a Sangria (beware in Israel its served hot), a beer or a glass of wine with a selection of nibbles/ appetizers while enjoying the view.

Manta Ray: One of my Favorites !

One of my favorit places in TA, its Location is wonderful, just on the beach between TA and Jaffa more towards Jaffa. The view is fantastic, you have all jaffa and the sea infront of you or to the other side TA shoreline.
They have tables either on the terrace or inside, but in any case its not crowded and you have planty of room between one table to another. the restaurant is well decorated and the feeling there is really nice.

They have a great Local salads for opening and lovely meals to offer.
One of the Lovely things to do is to enjoy your breakfast there with either French Israeli or British style breakfast. Also they have a fresh Squized juices which is personally something that i adore ! Ohhh what a great way to start a free day :-)

Favorite Dish: Ohhhhh too many things are my favourit, the Juices, breakfasts, sea food, the warm yemmenite bread that is served etc'... darn.. im getting hungry just thinking of it now :-)
