Many Israeli find it as alternative place to escape to on weekends, since there are many host site in the area. Golan number of industrial zones, BB, breweries, apple orchards and guest houses used by tourist attractions. Tel-Aviv

by Gili_S

Tel-Aviv is the culture and business center of Israel. It is also known for the nick name "the city that never sleeps". It is a great place for shopping, dining and parting and even some beach life in the summer. Whatever you look for, it is surely available in this cosmopolitan city.

Tel Aviv, as I noted in my introduction, has never been a great favorite of mine. But one of my boys has moved there, becoming a "nouveau Tel Avivian," and I realize I cannot go on ignoring this place. So I have set myself the goal of joining one of the free English-language walking tours of the city, if only to check it out for VTers. The trouble is that I need to hop on a bus early in the morning and actually get there. Meanwhile, here is the information. According to the woman from the tourist office, there is no need to register. The guides start out at the appointed place and time even if just one person shows up. 1) Tel Aviv University: Architecture and Art - Mondays at 11 a.m. Meet at the Dyonon bookstore at the entrance to Tel Aviv University campus.2) Old Jaffa - Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Flea market, archaeological sites and restored alleys of Old Jaffa. Meet at the Clock Tower.3)...

Eilat

The most southern city in Israel, and most popular summer resort in the country, located next to the Red Sea and the borders with Egypt and Jordan, making it an easy connection for travellers from Israel to Egypt or Jordan. Eilat has a lot to offer to travellers, and for a detailed information on Eilat's sites see my Eilat page. I will mention here the most recommended sites. The Kings City is located in the eastern lagoon, open 9:00-24:00 excluding Saturdays and holydays, is a myserious palace in which the visitor can enjoy the biblical world combined with an amusement park. The Underwater Observatory Park has panoramic windows under the water surface, offering wonderful views of the Red sea. The reef Aquarium offers a display of more than 400 species of fish with a large shark pool. The Oceanariumis is a 3-D multimedia experience taking the viewers to an underwater journey. Open...

Timna Park

by or_b

The Park offers some beautiful and unique landscape sights. Start from King Solomon's Pillars - which are a result of natural erosion that caused the rocks to look like gigantic pillars. Next to the pillars are stone stairs leading to the ancient Egyptian temple of the goddess Hathour, with a stone engraving of King Ramesses offering tribute to the goddess. From the parking lot there is a short trail leading to the natural monument of The Mushroom made of Red stone, a famous posing site. Next to it is the ancient working site where copper was melted. The Time Mines are a multimedia experience that illustrates the history of the site thousands of years old.The Valley of drawings next to the parking lot contains a display of replicas of stone drawings from the region with the famous chariots stone engraving from the Egyptian Era.A circular route taking about one hour leads you to the copper...

Ramon Crater

by or_b

The largest crater in the world. Start your visit in the visitors center (temporerily closed for renovation until February 2012) that offers breathtaking views of the crater and and an audiovisual show. Continue to the promenade that is built on the crater's edge, with lookout points spreaded along it. At the end of the Promenade is Mt. Camel that looks like a camel hump. Follow the trail to the summit which offers wonderful views. Return the same path to the visitors center and continue to the natural sculpting park, with sculptures that fit together with the landscape. Inside the park is the sound of the desert park, with huge musical instruments that are activated either by visitors or by the power of the wind. For the animal lovers, it is recommended to visit Hai-Ramon, located next to the visitors center, with animals that are typical to this region living in a desert garden.Follow...

Ben Gurion's hut & tomb and En Avdat & Avdat

by or_b

Driving South toward Sde-Boker where the father of the Nation and its first prime-minister - David Ben Gurion lived with his wife Paula in a modest hut. The hut remained in its original state and you can stroll the rooms. From here its a short trip to the graves of David and Paula Ben-Gurion overlooking a breathtaking view of the Tsin canyon and the Avdat highlands in the heart of the Negev. The path from the parking lot to the grave site goes through a magnificent desert garden. Continue to En Avdat Nature reserve - A Canyon formed by the En Avdat spring that cut through the soft white chalk. The trail runs along the narrow Canyon and ends in a waterfall. Return the same way to the parking lot and continue with the same ticket to the upper entrence that provides a lookout point to the canyon from above. Continue south and reach Avdat national park - The Nabatean City is well visible...

Nabatean Market in Mamshit and The Big Crater

by or_b

Mamshit was an important trade center. During Holydays the Nabatean market comes back to life and that's the best time to visit the city, when the local Bedouins and other craftsmen are offering their goods such as wooden camels and glass artifacts produced on the spot. Also found here are two Byzantine churches with mosaic floors and stables where the Arabian horse was bred. This city is considered the most preserved of the Nabtean cities of the Negev desert.Continue south toward Yeruham and follow the signs to the Big Crater. The first point of interest would be the observatory point on top of Mt. Avnon - here the crater spreads out in front of you with its majestic colors - pink, white, yellow and black. Drive down and reach the Petrified Forest, a mysterious place that during the pre-historic era was a forrest now turned into stone, continue to the Gate of The Crater, here you can...
