To Ramat Rachel from Jerusalem by bus

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Our excursion along Jerusalem continued on foot. But we had to visit Bethlehem after that. That’s why we went to Ramat Rachel by bus which is located 5 km to the south from the Jaffa Gate of the Old city. So we passed by Hativat Yerushalayim, Derech Hevron (#60 National road). Driving time was about 15 minutes. Unfortunately our trip to Bethlehem finished there because the guide told us that our bus couldn’t go to Palestinian Bethlehem … We had a dinner in Ramat Rachel and visited a Greek Monastery there. All I saw on our way there you can watch on my 4 min 30 sec HD Video Jerusalem out of a bus window part 3 out of my Youtube channel.

Jerusalem around by bus

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

I came to Jerusalem and my hotel Jerusalem Tower in the evening. It is located 5 minutes walk from the Old city. That’s why I didn’t use any public transport there that evening and the next day. I was walking around Jerusalem alone and this way of trip is the best way in Jerusalem because the Old city is a quadrate with about 1 km of its side. But in the third day of my stay in Jerusalem I bought an excursion with a guide in a group. They took me at my hotel in the morning and we went to the Gethsemane by bus.The trip began on the Hilel street, Ben Sira Street then, Shlomo HaMelech, HaTsanhanim (along the Northern Wall of the Old City), Sultan Suleiman street, Derech Jericho (along the Eastern Wall of the Old City) - 2,5 km, driving time - 15 minutes. You can watch my 5 min 36 sec HD Video Jerusalem out of a bus window part 1 and my 3 min 19 sec HD Video Jerusalem Out of a bus window part...

To Jerusalem from Ein Boqeq by minibus

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

So we had a short stop in Ein Boqeq on the shore of the Dead Sea. The distance between Ein Boqeq and Jerusalem is about 90 km. The road leads along the Dead Sea and I could watch this miracle located 400 m under the ocean level. The wonderful Sea was to the right, the magnificent mountains were to the left. The road was almost empty despite of only one line in each side. We were only two people in our minibus, I was sitting next to the driver and it was very convenient to take video. It was hour and a half of driving time to reach Jerusalem from Ein Boqeq. You can watch my 2 min 20 sec HD Video Israel Uvda - Dead Sea part 3 out of my Youtube channel with This Jesus must die out of Jesus Christ Superstar.

To Ein Boqeq (Dead Sea) from Ovda by mini

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

I started my trip along Israel in the Ovda Airport. My next destination was Jerusalem which is located 250 km to the north. You may think it is inconvenient because Jerusalem is located only 50 km east of the Ben Gurion International Airport. The distance is five times shorter! But I choose Ovda as the initial point of my trip because I wanted to cross the country and see the Negev desert and the Dead Sea.Unfortunately there is no public bus services. That’s why I was transferred by a minibus to the Dead Sea with two persons who wanted to stay in Ein Boqeq -a well-known resort. This way leads 15 km along the Route #12, 26 km along the Route #40, 11 km along the Route #13 and 107 km along the Route 90 up to Ein Bokek. It is 160 km and driving time - two hours.I could see a sandy storm in the Negev desert and wonderful landscapes which so differ from what we used to see in Russia. You can...

To Ovda from Sheremetievo by plane

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

If you follow to the South Region in Israel you’d better use Eilat or Uvda (Ovda) airports. But large wide-body aircrafts cannot operate from Eilat Airport because of its short runway. That’s why most international flights land at Uvda instead of Eilat about 60 km from it.I bought two-way flight of Aeroflot Russian Airlines from Sheremetievo (Moscow) to Ovda and back and it was very convenient to start and finish my trip there.First of all it was cheaper. Secondly I could see out of a window almost all the territory of Israel. Unfortunately it was a sandy storm when we were landing in Ovda. I have never felt such turbulence, haha! But I was lucky because my dream to visit Israel was coming true and the music from the famous “Jesus Christ Superstar” was playing in my ears… The additional distance to reach the Ovda Airport was about 250 km and additional 20 minutes in flight. You can watch...

To Israel from Moscow by airplane

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Israel has several International airports, the main of which is the Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. The airport is located near the city of Lod, 15 km southeast of Tel Aviv.Israel Railways operates a train service to and from the airport to several parts of the country and taxi stands are located outside the arrivals building. A popular transportation option is the shared taxi van, known in Hebrew as a monit sherut, going to Beer Sheva, Haifa and Jerusalem. You can get to the Ben Gurion International Airport by many airlines, including Russian Transaero from Moscow (Domodedovo Airport) and Pulkovo Aviation Enterprise from St. Petersburg. The distance between Moscow (Domodedovo) and Tel-Aviv (Ben Gurion International Airport) is about 2800 km (flight time is about 4 hours). The flight is leading over Moscovskaya, Tulskaya, Orlovskaya, Kurskaya and Belgorodskaya oblast’ in...

Driving in Israel - yes or no

by MariusG

First – no doubt that a rented car offers you the utmost flexibility, if you need and enjoy such flexibility and if you are an enough experienced driver. You can stay as much as you wish in a place that you like or leave it as soon as you feel that you are done, and for me it’d always be the first choice. The roads here are good and well marked in English and Arabic (assuming that this is one of the languages that you read), the GPS is well updated, people love to help and the gas prices are reasonable. On the downside, the parking is difficult and driving in Tel Aviv can be extremely exasperating, especially during the rush hours, unless you are used of driving in Manhattan or in Athens.Parking in a metered area is an average of US$1/hour and in a parking lot is from about $2/hour to $10/day.All major rental companies are represented here and you have a choice of a myriad of local...

Hireing a car

by tmsznowak

I think it's a good idea to hire a car. I did so using travelsupermarket.com. Paid $150 for a week. The economic car was more than enough to go where I wanted. Roads are good and very good. Driving in Jerusalem may be some fun. I would avoid pick time driving there however I didn't find it worse than driving in London. Before going to Israel I didn't realize that main transit roads cutting through West Bank are available for both Israeli and Palestinian so driving to the Dead Sea or Eilat through Palestinian teritory it is no problem at all. It's not advised hovewer to drive a car to Palestinian towns, however I saw some Israeli number plates in Betlehem.

Buy your bus ticket in Bnei Brak!

by iblatt

This tip is not known to many local Israelis, and is one of the best kept secrets of the "Egged" bus company:Do you want to travel by bus from Tel-Aviv to the Galilee? Tiberias? Safed? Kiryat Shmona? Do you want do pay the lowest fare possible? (Who doesn't?!)So, here is the tip for you: Take the Egged bus from the Haredi (orthodox religious) suburb of Bnei Brak, and you will pay about half the price you would pay if you got on the bus in the Tel-Aviv central bus station! Why? This is a secret agreement between Egged and the Haredi community, but anyone can benefit from it, including you!Meanwhile, if you are already passing through Bnei Brak, you can get a glimpse into the daily life of the Haredi population: although Haredi men dress only in black and white, the street scene is quite colorful!

All the major airlines come...

by Martin_S.

All the major airlines come here from all parts of the world, you can see the new airport terminal opened in 2002 in the photo, but while here you have the following modes of transportation.1) HitchHike: This used to be the most accepted way, but today with the recurring problems with the terrorists it is very difficult and NOT considered safe, there have been kidnappings.2) Bus: The EGGED bus company has lines running to virtually each and every city, town or village and they will even drop you off in the middle of nowhere. The drivers are usually very helpful also. (30 years ago the situation was different and the joke was 'What is a cross between a disc-jockey and a kamakazi pilot?' answer 'An EGGED bus driver'. Why is because they drove way over the speed limit and put the music on the highest setting).3) Taxi or 'Monit' or 'Sherut': a taxi (called 'Monit' in Hebrew) is just that and...
