The Capitals at the Temple of Artemis, Jerash by MiguelMV, 4 more photos 48 kilometres north of Amman, Jerash is one of the roman cities best preserved in the Middle East. It's forum, it's many temples, the cardo maximus and many other ruins makes it a very interesting place to visit. A few hours (3 maybe) are enough to visit the ruins and walk around all the ancient city area. It should be a must in a trip to Jordan. For those travelling on their own, there are buses connecting Amman with Jerash. The ruins are open every day from 8 to 17 in winter, and 8 to 19 in summer. There's also a restaurant inside the ruins where to have lunch with a nice and tasty buffet service. Leave a Comment

Jerash is important for its Roman architecture, allow two hours for taking in the major sights. It's a fabulous day trip from Amman and can be easily reached in less than an hour. The best time to visit Jerash is in July when the Jerash Festival transforms the ancient theatre into a spectacular array of art performances. Jerash is approx 50km from Amman by car - head northwest past the Jordon University and follow the road signs to Jerash.

by jlanza29 About 40 miles to the north of Amman, Jerash is a well preserved Roman city, actually the best preserved Roman City in the middle east. The site itself can be done in about 2 hours, admission was 5 JOD....a small resturant at the entrance allows you to buy water, soda's, etc., bring your walking shoes. Leave a Comment

The Folk dance by KHAMAJ Jerash Festival is an international festival which was established in 1980 as a proposal introduced by Her Majesty Queen Nour Al-Hussein. Soon after, the first Jerash Festival was launched in 1981. The festival takes place in the ancient Greek-Roman city of Jerash, Which was one of the famous Dicapolis cities during the 1st century AD. The whole city with its Amphy theaters, Temples, Plazas and Forums opens for the artists and audiences. There are seven theaters, which represent the seven arts. Many international artists, musicians, poets and many super stars had participated in previous years. Time, Space and light are mixed tremendously together here where the ancient Dicapolis spirit is recreated in a form of rhythmic unity of aspirations for freedom, prosperity, and good life. This is the message of Jerash Festival; to celebrate life in Jubilation, life as a value and symbol. In Jerash, the whole world is between your hands, a beautiful piece of cosmic poetry is for you to read and enjoy. A poem written using the vocabularies of the language of creating; musicians, dancers, singers, poets and dreamers. From the south theater near by Hadrian Gate to the north Theater after the steps of Artemis Temple you pass the world. Jerash is a journey in music and arts.
