Get a local friend

by wiaam

Hello,I am a Jordanian living in Jordan, and I think one of the most important things to do before visiting Jordan is to have a couple of local phone numbers in your mobile phone. From my personal experience, I noticed that tourists usually get fooled and tricked with a lot of things, money, goods and a lot of other cases. Taxi drivers for example will ask for more than the usual rate for the ride and so on; this wouldn’t happen though if the tourist was prepared.A lot of people here would love to help others in this area and I am one of them, I suggest that before you make a trip to Jordan, get online and find some Jordanian people and try to learn from them as much as possible, and trust me they won’t hesitate in helping you, you can obtain their phone numbers and keep them as a backup plan in your mobile phone, I know that this might seem weird to some westerners, like why would these...

You might get snow in Jordan.

by cachaseiro

In the winter months, snow is a real possibility in Jordan, especially in the more mountainous parts of the country. It's unlikely to stay long though and mostly you can just make a quick little snowball out of it if you are quick, but you should be prepared that it can get cold if you visit Jordan in the winter months.

There are christiians in Jordan too.

by cachaseiro

Jordan has a very visible Christian community that accounts for around 6% of the population and apart from the odd little squabble then the christians and the muslim majority get along well and have mutual respect for eachother. You often see churches and mosques right next to eachother for instance. The christian minority in Jordan consists mainly of greek orthodocs and koptic chistians.

Jordan Direct Tours

by Ski_Entropy

We do not work for or are affiliated with Jordan Direct Tours, but we highly recommended them for private tours like the one we adventured on. We have been on a lot of tours through the Middle East and these guys were the best.

Languages

by vinc_bilb

Arabic is the official language of Jordan. English is widely understood among most Jordanians and could be considered as their second language. French is understood by some, especially in the tourist spots.Tourism is a very important sector of the Jordanian economy, so, no problem of langages here.

The royal family.

by cachaseiro

Jordan is a kingdom and is currently ruled by king Abdullah the second. He took over when his father Hussein died back in 1999.Hussein was a very respected person in the whole middle east and was seen as a good diplomat who managed to get a peace treaty with Israel that is still effective. When hussein died, many feared that the country was heading for trouble as Abdullah was farily young and inexperienced when he took over but he has so far managed quite well, especially thanks to his wife who is not just clever, but also of palestinian decent.A very important thing in a country where almost half the population is of palestinian decent. You will see portraits of the royal family everywhere in jordan from the big city of Amman to the bedouin tents of the desert.

VISA

by sarhot

Hi When you enter Jordan they usually give you one month in Jordan, And if you like to avoid the Israeli stamp on your passport, so you have to use King Hussein Bridge near Amman ( Allenbi Bridge), where you ask both sides Jordanian and Israeli side not to stamp your passport for 4 times and they will do it on a separate paper. You can stay one week in Israel with no need another Jordanian visa, You can go to the King Hussein Bridge by mini bus from the NORTHERN bus Station or taxi arrange by your hotel in Amman. taxi should not cost you more than 20 JD, then from the israeli side another taxi or mini bus to Jerusalem then to any where else you want, The same way back with AGAIN asking the officers not to stamp your passport If you have no problem with Israeli stamp on your passport so no need to ask the officers to not stamp your passport As for visas costs Jordanian visa at the airport...
