Free visas - but...

by TheWanderingCamel

It is possible (in theory anyway) to get the free ASEZA visa on any frontier. There's a special desk for them at the airport in Amman. The condition is that you must register it in Aqaba at the ASEZA offices within 24 hours of entering the country. This condition is very strictly applied, and you must be there during office hours to do so - so don't try it on a Thursday for instance unless you can get there by 4pm the same day. Also be careful of any national holidays. If you are NOT there within the 24 hours, you are liable for the normal visa price (2JD) plus a fine for every day you have been in Jordan without the visa.Lulu

+ + !!! Beware

by 1W1V

Beware when you see ++ after a price. It means that you have to add 10 % service and 16 % GST. So a 100 JOD bill will eventually cost you 127.6 JOD.This is especially common in hotel and restaurant.Retail shops only apply the GST but in that case most of the prices already include the GST.

Don't visit during Ramadan

by crewrower

Speaking as a non-Muslim, I would suggest not planning a holiday to Jordan during Ramadan. Restaurants are shut down during the daytime, and you're in a situation of both not being able to eat easily during daylight hours and being culturally insensitive by eating if you can. Maybe being there for Eid al Mabarak, the breaking of the fast, is different, but during Ramadan itself it's not the greatest time.

Which border in Israel to Cross ?

by Sharon

. Arriving to Jordan from Israel: Basically there are few options:1. Crossing the border of Eilat to Aqaba, Jordan2. Crossing at Alenbi Bridge Terminal (not far from Jericho)3. Crossing the River Jordan Terminal (near Bet She'an area, in the north)4. Flying to AmmanIf the goal of your trip to Jordan is to see Petra and / Or Wadi RumI warmly recommend you to cross at the Eilat Terminal (Itzhak Rabin Terminal). It will save you a lot of hassle as well as the passage fee... and its much more pleasant to cross in Eilat. You can read about the best options to arrive to Eilat in my Eilat page. The best way to arrive the Yitzhak Rabin Terminal (Eilat /Aqaba border) is either via car or via taxi. There is NO buss going there from the city. However please note that the distance from the city it self is so short (not more then 5 min’ !) so its not going to take much more of your budget. Parking lots...

Israelis in Jordan

by Sharon

Israelis CAN visit Jordan and are very welcome there (at least according to my experienceas well as of friends i know who said the same).Jordanians Are very warm people and very welcoming, even the soldiers at the border were so kind and nice to us, and that immediately made us feel comfortable there. Many of us carried and unpleasant memories from the crossing of the Egyptian border (both Israelis and tourists) but it was nothing like it. However, We're still visiting an Arab country and its important to know whats forbidden there and to repect the local rules just as we do in any other country we visit.Visa:Visa for 2 weeks, free of charge can be obtained ONLY at the Yitzhak Rabin Terminal (at the Jordanian terminal) to Israelis or any other foreign passport holders (except for citizens of countries that Jodan Authorities requier a Special visa in advance) ! Israelis do get an...

No tourists!

by antistar

It's a shame for the locals, and a shame for everyone who is missing out on this fantastic country, but an absolute boon for anyone deciding to visit Jordan at this time. I travelled in winter, which is outside the main tourist season, and the weather was beautiful. Sunny every day, and about 15 degrees during the day. And no tourists!Well a few, but apart from the odd single tour bus turning up, probably on a day trip from Israel, you could guarantee to have some of the most amazing sights in the world all to yourself for hours at a time. I sat on the Temple of Zeus in Jerash, one of the biggest and most awesome Roman cities in the world, and looked out over the entire town. And saw nobody. Not a soul. In Petra I stood in the Siq, the main entrance to the site, and could have heard a pin drop. It was so quiet I could hear the blood rushing in my ears. This is a wonder of the world, a...

Understated Middle Eastern Country

by jadedmuse

My favorite thing about Jordan (besides the dramatic topography of rugged mountains and arid wadis) is probably the fact that the sun always seems to be shining there. Or at least it's always shined upon me when I've visited Jordan. How friendly the people are. Jordan's economy is not the greatest. The country depends on tourism for the most part, but it's not widely exploited and certainly not all that well known. You can relax at a spa by the Dead Sea, go scuba diving in Aqaba, visit famous ruins in Jaresh, go four wheel driving and camping - beduoin style, under the stars - in Wadi Rum where the famous "Lawrence of Arabia" was filmed; there's rapelling, dune-surfing, exploring Petra, and other activities vastly understated but widely available. If you're interested in the Middle East but a little ginger about visiting, Jordan is a great place to get to know.

Dont go during Ramadan

by ChristinaC

For anyone that actually wants to have a good time in Jordan, DONT go during Ramadan! You wont find much to do here! and no nightclubs is open. You might find some places like Burger King that deliever during the day time, but else it can be hard to find somewhere to get something to eat outside the hotel I dont think I have been sleeping as much in my whole life as I did during Ramadan! Sleeping at day, living at night :) Could be boring at times!

Petra

by olja1234

The colours of the rock ranges from pale yellow or white through red to brown...Exploring this ancient town we met many local children (offering stones), very beauteful (as all children are) but very shy. I remember one girl about 8 years, dressed in long white dress, with that deep brown eyes. She was so cute, but she didn't allowe nobody to take photo of her.Another view of Petra
