Acaba

by olja1234

Acaba is surronded by rugged mountains that changed colour as the day unfolds. Its ideal location, a pleasant climate and crystal water, make it an ideal place for year round scuba diving and othher water sports. The picture is was taken from hotel's terace. Hotel we stayed in, was very clean, rooms were very comfortable and clear.

Leaded or Unleaded ?

by 1W1V

Beware, on May 2005, most of the petrol station in Jordan only have diesel or leaded petrol. This can be a problem as most of the rented car are moreless new and all using unleaded petrol.Things are changing but at the time of writing, few petrol station in Amman have unleaded, one in Petra and one in Aqaba. All the rest only have leaded petrol !

Amman

by ElSk

Spend as little time in Amman as possible-and preferably do not leave it for last destination as it will ruin the great impressions you will definitely have of jordan. It is loud, dirty, polluted and people stare at you in a strange way...All shops in the suk sell more or less the same things which can also be found in Mecca Mall-a clean modern shopping more 10 km from AMman center.

Free visas in Aqaba

by TheWanderingCamel

The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA for short) has introduced a special Economic Zone visa for Jordan, to be known as an "ASEZ visa". Anybody arriving in Aqaba, whether at the port, at the airport or from the Arava crossing from Israel can get a free visa for Jordan. There is no obligation associated with this visa, providing they leave the country within 15 days and do not need to register their visa for "renewal". Passports are not checked at the ASEZ control point leaving the Economic Zone. People arriving at any entry point other than Aqaba, who say to the authorities that they are going to Aqaba can claim a free visa, but with the obligation to register with the ASEZA visa office in Aqaba within 48 hours of their arrival in Jordan. Failure to do this brings liability to pay for the visa plus a fine of 1.5JD/day for each day non registered. Anybody arriving in Aqaba can...

Visas and exit tax

by TheWanderingCamel

Tourist visas are easily available at any entry point into Jordan except the King Hussein Bridge These are single entry visas and cost 10JD or approx 15USD. You don't need photos, or any document except your passport. Single entry visas are valid for three months from the date you entered the country, but you must "register" them at a main police station within two weeks of your arrival. If you forget about this, then you have a fine of 1.5JD per day for each day you have neglected to register. What's more, you cannot pay this fine at the same police station as the one that "registers" you: you have to do it at the district police station that may not even be in the same town! And when the fine is paid, you are still not registered, you have to return to the first police station to do it. All in all, it is much simpler to check in with the police before your two weeks are up. This...

Rocky desert, sandy beaches, blue seas

by PedroElFufu

Scuba diving at Al Aquba was probably the highlight of this visit. The mad coloured fish, the even madder looking fish...fantastic.Remember while you're in Al Aquba to visit the hookah bars, this is where you can choose from the finest(?) fruit tobaccos to be smoked on an impossibly large hookah. Careful when travelling the streets at night, we came across some rather unhappy youths. The Wadi Rum is a marvel to behold, such natural beauty surrounded by people trying to sell you a trip on their Camel.Becareful, make sure you pay for the ride at the end or they may try and charge you twice. If you have ever seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade you will already be familiar with ??

See as much of the country as...

by freya_heaven

See as much of the country as you can, but I have to say Petra (obviously!) is the one place you cant go to Jordan without seeing. So many to choose from, One was in Petra, we had gone in at 6 in the morning to avoid the crowds & heat as we wanted to do a lot of walking up to the High Places. Near the top after a lot of walking we came across a chap selling drinks in seemingly what was the middle of nowhere. Nothing unusual in that, but he also had a fridge up there with him which was 'plugged' in to the rock of the cliff! It was so funny. Another was my 24th Birthday in Wadi Rum with the bedouins there. Full Details on my Wadi Rum PageThis is a very hot me, on top of 'High Place'

Nice people, great ancient cities, wonderful country! Jordan has so much to offer: deserts and ruins and lively cities. But the best are the Jordanian People: they are very welccoming and like to talk to you.
