Spending time at the bars

by dabuwan

Many jordanians spend a lot of time at the local bars, drinking tea, coffee and playing cards or domino. Of course this is a male only activity, though it's OK for female tourists to sit there for a drink without any hassle.

Smoking the waterpipe

by dabuwan

Smoking the waterpipe (narjile) is very popular in most Jordanian bars. You can smoke plain or apple-flavoured tobacco. The smoke is very light and cool; it's a very relaxing practice and some waterpipes are really nicely decorated handwork.Usually there is a guy who helps to light it and replaces periodically the burning charcoals. Typical price is 1.5 €.

When you travel into Jordan...

by scotty1

When you travel into Jordan from Israel you have to pay a rather large duty tax, but it will be added onto the price of your trip. You are not allowed any food or drink into the country so anything that you may have on you will be taken away and put into the bin. Once you pass customs there is a shop where you can buy some food and water. I don't know why they do this but thats what they do. It will take some time to cross the border into Jordan so be patient

I personally feel it's better to not wear shorts, short skirts, or anything that might show the skin on your legs. It is in the custom to cover up, even though Jordan is a relatively open minded country. Even though it is not against the law to wear it, I found that it is just an attention getter. People will stare at you, perhaps follow you.
