There are some places to chill out in Wadi Musa Town but I was not that interested.
Only captured this scene which was taken on my way to Petra (for the Night Excursion !). It was brightly lit Wadi Musa !
We were not allowed to talk when walking along The Siq. This would be until we reached The Treasury.
It's funny because we were supposed to feel the ambience of the place how it would be like thousands of years ago.
Actually, we were too busy looking at the almost-dark path that we were walking on, careful not to step on the camels' & donkeys' dung splattered on the ground !
This is the musician who played sweet wailing music on that night.
If you clck the photo bigger, you could see the guy, I hope !
After tea, we could stay or we could leave the place.
I stayed for another 5 minutes...I didn't want to wander further, I was afraid of ghosts !
Normally I don't but in Petra that night, I was !
I looked at the night sky, there's a full moon up there.
It was bright but not bright enough for my night photos.
It's nice looking at the moon amidst the rock walls of Petra.
Too bad that not many people would want to do this...
I thought it's time to go. This night excursion around Petra (well, not so much of an excursion anyway as we limit ourself along The Siq & The Treasury) is said to be held on Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday.
The best way is ask The Tourist Office or rather The Ticket Office. If you have enough friends with you, they would do it, meaning they would line up candles & playing ancient music for you & your mates...
The photo is showing as I walked back...The Candles were still burning...
I was not the first one to leave but I could see some people were following behind me as well.
All with their own comments of Petra At Night.
I had a good time indeed ! Judging from the photos that I took & displayed on here.
There's a souvenir shop opened as we were near The Ticket Office but nobody was really buying anything.
So, it ended this 'excursion'.
Started at about 8 pm until 10 pm or so (which also including the time walking along The Siq to The Treasury & back to The Ticket Office)...Well, we could stay longer if we want.
Would I do it again ?
Don't think so maybe if I could sleep with my friends inside The Treasury, I would ! We promise we won't disturb the ghosts...Err, does that mean that I promise not to smoke ?
Well, we shall see about that !
Not many people want to see Petra at night anyway. I was told that they would limit as about 15 people to come in at 1 time but somebody also told me that there were about 30 people when they were there the previously night.
I was lucky, not many people hence I could enjoy the night sight without some children crying or adults talking.
In theory, this is only organized every Monday and Tuesday. This is however theory, the first night I was there, I didn’t have anything to do and I simply walked down to the Visitor center to check the place. There was precisely a visit organized this day (Friday!) because some group from a hotel asked for it… The tour leaves from the Visitor’s center around 8h30 and cost about 12JD.
If you have the opportunity to do it, jump on it!! The site from the intrance of the siq to the Kazneh is lit with hundreds of little candle in paper bag! I can still hardly believe they set that up for our little group (15-20 persons at most).
We first walked trough the dark siq in silence and when we arrived in front of the treasure, we can guess its shape thanks to tens of those little candles. A delicious tea (not a simple mint tea) is offered and the guide starts telling us his story…
This is a perfect introduction to Petra. I’m not sure I would have appreciated it so much if I had already spent the day visiting the site…
Every Thursday the Siq and Tresoury is illuminated with candles adn i think is one of the best experiences i have in my life! Maybe in summer there are another day, Monday, i think, but Thursdays is always. It's a different ticket, for 7,50 J Dinars, it's a full experience to walk at night! we were also very lucky because that Thursday there was full moon! Then in the tresoury there is a musician and he also tells thing about Petra. It was very interesting!
The most wonderful place you can go at night is ... and I think one of the most wonderful places in the world ... Petra By Night.
On Thursday Petra is open at night, all the Siq is illuminated by candles till the Treasure. There a Bedouin man is playing a flute you can not imagine how magic all this can be.
At 20:30 you meet at the entrance of Petra and you must go inside with the group, they recommend not to talk and to go one by one through the Siq, so that nothing lose its mystery, but you know that going in group is always a mess, so just follow the group and try to be the last , and follow the group but keeping a good distance so that you are nearly along between those beautiful pink orange walls
I had the great luck to go with Zumodemango that knew, before going there, that this event was going to take place that night ... thanks Zumito
Fare: 12 J.D.
We had the great luck to make friends the first day, making friends is not difficult with Bedouins, they are the most wonderful people I have ever met.
They invited us to eat at a restaurant and after to the mountains of Wadi Mousa, it was full moon that night and you can believe me when I say that I think I have never seen nothing more breathtaking.
Even the ancient holes on the rock wall were put candles. Nice...
Some of the candles did burn the paper bags that they were in...so we could see small fires as we walked along The Siq.
