Samira! by Djinn76 Well, not really a restaurant since I was invited in a private house! I still don't know what was the reason, if they did it for the money, by hospitaly or simply because it was the Rammadan! I was just chatting with some Bedouins girls selling their souvenirs when they proposed me to come to eat at their place for the price of a restaurant! I was not to sure what to do but I finally accepted and I don't regreat it! The food was definitely better than the one you can find in an average restaurant for tourist (the day after I tried the Red Cave) and it was a good opportunity to discover their local life!! Really surprising indeed... Apparently the withe tourists are not a common view in Umm Sayhoun, the new bedouin village! The bedouin don't live under a tent anymore but in spacious but charmless concrete house. The most surpising is the total lack of furnitures except for the carpets... Following the dinner, a maglouba, a dish that Bedouin are not supposed to usually cook (weird!), it was about time to relax... We moved to another room, again almost no furniture except for many cushions along the wall and they switch on the TV!! Even worse, he then plugged in a DVD reader and started playing a stupid american movie... Courtesy of the Movenpick Petra Resort website by jadedmuse Sadly for us, we were not able to experience first hand (though we saw it of course) what it is to unwind at the end of the day and catch a sunset from the rooftop garden here.... ...my husband was really excited when he learned they offer the narghila pipe (open air) but we soon learned the Al Ghadeer Roof Garden is not open during the winter months - only the summer months! Too bad for us (though we enjoyed the Al Baraka Tea Room inside). I can tell you the decor was very Arabic and charming. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are served here, along with pastries and light snacks. Leave a Comment

by jadedmuse The Al Saraya is the main restaurant in the Movenpick Petra Resort. The menu features their famous buffets and a la carte faire.
The buffet, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, was AMAZING and BOUNTIFUL. International, Middle Eastern...you name it, they had it and all of the food was FRESH. We just really feasted and feasted and felt so privileged to do so in such a lovely atmosphere. Again, it just felt like we were in the middle of a vacation WHILE being on vacation. Great experience here, with wonderful staff. Leave a Comment

Mmmmmmm....not only was tea on the menu, but coffee and wine. In the winter, there's a lovely fireplace roaring - NOT that it's so cold, but it does get nippy in the desert. It was like a dream to have spent all day exploring Petra, enjoy a delicious dinner, then wander leisurely into the Tea Room and settle down in a comfy chair by the fire while the Host provided some local history...he was so professional and attentive. Oh - and the decor was fantastic - dim lighting and a real desert mood, with Lawrence of Arabia theme. It sounds cheesy but trust me, it was fully authentic and tastefully done. We LOVED!!!!
Did I mention the TERRIFIC pastries? Leave a Comment

In Petra there is just one restaurant located at one end of the colonnaded street. It is a kind of touristy, overpriced place. I suggest you buy your own drink & food in the shops in Wadi Musa and bring enough with you for the whole day in Petra. Take care not to litter! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

A shady spot by TheWanderingCamel If, as you should have, you've had an early start in Petra, come lunchtime you'll be hungry. There are not a lot of options available but you should be able to find something to suit you, a shady spot to sit and a cold drink to refresh you before you start off again. The most expensive option is the restaurant run by the Movenpick Hotel at the Basin - not having eaten there, I can't give an opinion. The Nabatean Tent offers a buffet that, whilst not anything to write home about, we found quite satisfactory. There are a couple of others places that I am sure would be equally satisfactory or you could always pick up something in town and bring your own picnic, but that's about it. When you've climbed all those stairs (300, 800 - whatever - it's a long climb)the teahouse in the cave at The Monastery is a good place to stop in the shade for a drink and a great view of the facade as a reward for your effort.. leyle Leave a Comment

We had a lunch break including in our visit and they took us to this place called Doshata, nothing special to tell about, it was chicken, pita, hummus etc. and it was OK. They did not serve beer here but I often want to try something local where ever I visit, so I ordered something which is called: Malt Beverage :))) Well, obviously, they couldn't call it a beer as it didn't taste like one at all. Al Arabi - Wadi Musa by PierreZA A very nice restaurant just off the round about in central Wadi Musa. The guide I had at Petra told me that they make the best shish-tawook, well I agree. This is a very nice restaurant, popular with locals and tourists alike. Service is friendly and fast. A restaurant I will recommend.
