  • yes, the same ... I think that is not the best place to put a shop, when you get up here you only want to live ... to brief, to rest a little, to be someone, and you know you have to go on ? you the last thing that comes to your head is to buy something.

Shop at Silk Tomb: Shop at Silk Tomb
  • Tip Rating:
  • The same merchandise, this time sell by a little girl, under the eye of her grandmother and brother. She really tried to sell us something. Well is just another place to buy something, just bargain, now you know the prices, so, try to get a good one. Of course the prices with bargain or without it are great. This girl, we where told after, is the sister of the woman with more beautiful eyes in all Petra. I can really belief it cause this little girl really had gorgeous eyes. When we where going she only told us ?do not buy to the man of the next shop? hahahahaha

In a big cave there is the most fantastic place, a very fresh place to rest after a long hot walk ... this is the best place to put a shop with drinks. When you get here you don't want to go ... just rest there at the carpets and drink something to calm the thirst, also with VISA and lots of tables and things to buy

View point Shop: View point Shop
  • Tip Rating:
  • At the very top, when you search the Viewpoint after Monastery you will find the Viewpoint Shop. Like all the others they are moving shops. This man was going to Egypt in few days. He come here with his donkey, as the others, that wait for him under a little shadow. Like others, this man was very hospitality, and he had also good silver things. We spend with him a long time in that incredible beautiful place.

    The fruit market!: Buying fruit
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you're looking for some fruit in Petra/Wadi Mousa you won't find any in the village street. All the fruit shops have been moved to a main market, which is just below the new bus station. It's quite good fun looking round the market. Posted by Lulu

    Narghila Pipes

  • Our gorgeous narghila pipe! - Petra
    Our gorgeous narghila
    pipe!

We got a beautiful narghila pipe at one of the shops near the Movenpick Petra Resort...they are quite unique here. Actually, there are all kinds of little shops along the main street (wish I could tell you the street name but it's the main one outside the Petra Park entrance, where the Movenpick Resort Petra is located) and they're open day and evening. I want to make a note here that you MUST BARGAIN with the shopkeepers. I have a story of one shopowner who was actually insulted because I failed to bargain hard. For real! We went back and forth several times and then after a long pause and some mental calculations, I came back with my offer. The owner cast me a withering look and told me that it was hardly worth MY while to come back with such an offer... Moral of the story being that you are dealing with bedouin (not these particular shopkeepers but still, that's the cultural heritage here) Arab culture and they are proud wheeler-and-dealers. Do they want to make money off you? Sure. But they are into the process as much as the end result, and the idea is for everyone to walk away feeling satisfied. They really get into the ritual of offering tea and the respectful haggling of prices. To be a worthy consort, you need to play the game with them and it pays to play it well. Go in knowing what you are and aren't willing to pay for an item, state a beginning point that isn't completely ridiculous but would most likely be rejected by the owner, and work it from there. The process of purchase can be as much fun as the purchase itself!

We paid about $65 USD for a large pipe.

The Noor Al-Hussein Foundation (as in Queen Noor) provides training and marketing assistance to traditional crafts enterprises and jewelry ventures - and this in turn creates jobs for women while reviving traditional craftsmanship throughout Jordan. At the top of the climb to the Deir (monastery), I purchased some silver handiwork and the reason I did so was because of this. Note: There are kiosks set up throughout the park including the top of this particular climb, where you can find such artisanry and jewelry.
